I don’t have a lot of time to read these days, but I still like to always have a book on hand for when I need a break from the computer. When I was asked recently to review a book for a friend of a friend, I had to be sure it sounded like something I would enjoy. Of course, it also has to at least have dogs or cats in it for me to review it for this blog. The premise of this book sounded right up my alley; I enjoy a good lighthearted and amusing romance and that’s exactly what this is.
Twin sisters Willa and Sloane couldn’t be any different. Willa is an optimistic romantic who works as a pet psychic. Sloane is a forensic accountant who is a workaholic and has no time for or inclination towards romance. Willa takes after their artsy mother, and Sloane wonders is if she must take after their unknown father. Willa is convinced that she and her twin sister have parallel lives, and when something good happens for one, it will happen for the other as well. However, it doesn’t turn out to be that simple.
When Willa meets a handsome rose expert with a sad dog, she is intrigued and wants to find out more. Brody is sending her mixed signals, and the only way to find out the truth is through his golden retriever, Roxie. Roxie reveals that Brody is in the middle of a divorce, but that does not stop idealistic Willa from letting their relationship progress.
Sloane is successful at her job, and even though she might have time for a dalliance with a co-worker, she is far more interested in using her math skills to investigate and help convict embezzlers, and to root out assets hidden by cheating spouses. Her life is complicated by her attractive longtime friend and neighbor, Gavin, but she has no interest in letting that friendship go any further, or so she tells herself.
Woven throughout the struggles of these budding romances are the interesting cases each sister handles through their line of work. One of Sloane’s forensic cases is made more troublesome by the involvement of Gavin’s ex-girlfriend, a relationship that Sloane helped thwart. Willa’s cases include a pregnant pooch whose rich owner wants to know how she ended up that way!
It’s hard not to love the characters in this book. I even ended up rooting for Sloane, who is cynical and not the animal lover her sister is. The personalities are very well developed, and you end up understanding why Sloane is the way she is. The love between the sisters runs deep, even when they’re at odds.
I thoroughly enjoyed Twin Piques. It was entertaining and fun and the relationships between the characters were real. I like to read books for relaxation, and this book would have been perfect to take to the beach or on vacation. It was also great for being stuck inside on cold winter days! There are actually two twists at the end that took me by surprise, and especially during the last few chapters, I found myself very engrossed in finding out how it all ended! If you enjoy books about family (including pets), friends, and romance, I think you would enjoy it as well.
About the author: Tracie Banister has been writing since she was a child. Like most of us, she had to put her writing aside and get a “real job” in order to pay the bills. After 12 years of that, she decided to follow her dream and write full time. Twin Piques is her third novel. Tracie has three dogs of her own, two older rescue pups, and an adorable 3 month old puppy named Reggie, seen below.
If you would like to learn more about Tracie and her other novels, you can visit her website by clicking here, and follow her on Twitter and Pinterest as well. Twin Piques is available on amazon.com and the kindle version is currently only $1.99! Paperback is available as well. Click here to purchase, and enjoy!

Sounds like a good book. I am just getting back to reading more now that my eye is healing. It is still slow going but much better than before my surgery. 🙂
I’m glad to hear that your eye is getting better so that you can get back to reading, and especially that the surgery sounds like a success!
Sounds like the books I like to read too, mindless and good.
That’s how it should be…reading is for relaxation, right?
This sounds like another book I shall have to add to my collection of books recommended by Wag ‘n Woof Pets!!
Have you gotten to read any of them yet? 🙂
I will have to put this on my “to-read” list. Thanks for a great review.
You’re welcome! I hope you get a chance to read it.
Next on my reading list is “The Returns”. 🙂
Great review! This sounds like a good read. The mom needs to check it out.
I hope she will, I just know she will enjoy it!
I’m glad you enjoyed Twin Piques! I really enjoyed it too. Such great characters and good plot twists. And cute dogs! What more could you want? 🙂
I should say… of course you liked it, since I did. After all, we were apparently separated at birth!
🙂 That’s why when Tracie asked me to review the book, I knew if she was your friend, that I would most likely enjoy the book so I had to read it!
You are right, you can’t ask for more than that out of a book….cute dogs, good characters, and some good plot twists!
Great review!!! Sounds like a good read!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Thanks, Jenna! It really was!
I’ll put that book on my list, it sounds intriguing.
Oh good, I just know you will enjoy it!
Thanks for a great review… I love this kind of books and I think I should read why this dog is so sad and what Willa can do :o)
I think you should, and I think you’ll be happy with how it all turns out! 🙂
I too enjoy reading – but find it difficult these days to carve out sometime. Believe it or not, I read more in the warmer weather then the others. I love to sit outside on the deck – let the boys play and get swept away with a good book. This sounds like one I could enjoy!
I think you would enjoy it, Cathy, and it would be perfect for sitting on the deck reading. I have learned to multi-task….I throw the ball while sitting in the lounge chair reading!
Sounds like a fun, light-hearted book with some interesting subplots that would be a nice summertime read; I’m putting it on my list. And Reggie is absolutely adorable!!
I know, isn’t he? I hope you get a chance to enjoy the book this summer!
Sounds like a nice book. Mom isn’t much of a book reader, though. Reading has never been something she enjoys much, maybe a book every year or two.
I’ve always been an avid reader, ever since I was a kid. My siblings all are too, I think it’s just something we got from our mother.
