Guess What I Found?
By Luke Keefe
One of the best things about going for a walk, is that sometimes you find a treasure out there! That very thing happened to me this last week. The Momz and I were walking along the road, and you’ll never guess what I found right on the side of the road!

Yup, that’s a turkey feather all right! We’ve been seeing a lot of wild turkeys in our yard lately….sometimes they even come right up by my fence! Those are the times I let Momz and Dadz know that I need to go outside and NOW! A lot of times I just run along the fence and scare them away, I don’t even bark at them or anything. There is some wildlife we don’t like to see in our yard, but we like to see the turkeys, so I TRY to be nice (I can’t help it…as you know, birds excite me!).

They can even be entertaining sometimes. One time three big Tom turkeys were following the guinea hens around the yard! The guineas didn’t know what to make of that! Another time one was headed right into the garden where Henrietta’s nest is. Dadz put a stop to that, because he was afraid that the guinea boys might try to attack it. Those turkeys are a lot bigger than our guinea hens! Momz, some photos of the turkeys to illustrate that might have been nice. I’ll have her get on that.

Anyway, back to my feather. I picked that right up and gave it a good chomp. It sure was crunchy, and yup, it tasted like turkey! Momz says I was so cute, because I decided to take that feather along on our walk, and occasionally, I’d give it a good chomp.

I took it down the road, and then even a good part of the ways on our woods trail.

Then I smelled something interesting on a tree and had to drop it to investigate. Momz says it’s always onto something else with me! Well, that feather was fun while it lasted, and I bet it’s still right where I left it, in case I decide to pick it up again next time we go by that tree.
Oh! By the way, sometimes we see the turkeys themselves when we’re out walking. Well, so Momz tells me anyway. Most of the time, she seems them first, and that gives us a good chance to work on my cues. “This way”, says Momz, and we turn right around before I even know they’re there!
So tell us, my doggy friends, have you ever found anything cool like a turkey feather on one of your walks?
Oh my gosh! Luke is so cute with that feather. Barley’s found a lot of painted rocks and a few robin’s egg shells. I don’t know if Rye’s found any treasures or not, though! She might have found some that she didn’t want to point out to me because she knew I wouldn’t actually let her have them!
Those are fun finds too! I can just imagine what Rye might try to get into! 🙂
Delilah always finds interesting things on our walks! The most interesting things for her are food, of course! And she finds a lot of that around where we are.
The interesting thing is….she wouldn’t pick up a feather, even if it smelled like turkey! LOL
At least this was better than the deer poop which is usually Luke’s favorite thing to find! 🙂
That are pawretty cool!! Mama sees wild turkeys along the road side sometimes.

Around here, in the spring we have to stop a lot, because they’re often crossing the road with their babies!
That’s a pretty cool feather. We took a trip east earlier in the summer and saw so many wild turkeys! I had never seen one in the wild before. They are pretty cool looking. Glad you had a fun walk!
They are fun to see, and we have a lot around here. They were endangered at one point, but our state Fish and Game Dept. started a recovery program, and they did a great job! Now they’re everywhere!
What a fun feather find. We occasionally have some wild turkeys come through our neighborhood, but they’re pests scratching at the landscaping. They can also scratch paint off cars with their big nails. We wish they’d stay at our nearby river where they can’t do any damage.
Oh no! I can see why you wouldn’t want them around. We haven’t had any problems like that with the ones around here.
What a cool find, Turkey feathers are great! I love wild turkeys.
I really enjoy seeing the turkeys too. We think they may have decided our little poultry farm is a great place to hang out. 🙂
You are too funny 🙂
🙂
We see wild turkeys on occasion when out in the early morning. They are quite ugly! Feathers don’t interest any of us, so we leave them wherever they are.
They really are kind of funny looking, and when they run they look like prehistoric birds!
What a great find, Luke! Sometimes the mom finds feathers in the yard and she brings them to us. Once she found a hawk feather. Now that was something! We played and played with it until it fell apart.
I think that turkey feather was probably longer than Samantha, but I should have brought it inside for her. Next time I will – I saw a smaller one the other day so we’ll be on watch on our next walk.
How wagnificent you came up on a drive thru with turkey on the menu! Bravo. I’d watch those wild things—you don’t want baby 🦃 with the guineas!
Ha ha, I never thought of that!!
A turkey feather is definitely a major find! My brother has wild turkey come into his yard in Tennessee. When we were there with Bentley and Pierre, they thought rolling in turkey poop was a great idea. It was not. LOL! I’d love to see photos of the ones in your yard. I imagine the guineas were thinking they were HUGE!
Oh, Luke would be interested in the poop too, but since we already have bird poop around our yard, it just blends in with the rest! LOL
The turkeys were out with the guineas again the other day, but I couldn’t get a photo. Luke was all wound up about the turkeys and if I left the house he would have gotten even more so!
It’s a zoo around here….
I found a duck feather once…it was SCARY…so I left it alone.

Heeheehee….I think I remember that post!
That’s quite a treasure! I think Ducky would be just as happy with a squirrel tail. (Did you know they can shed their tails in order to escape capture? I didn’t either, but that’s a rumor I heard a while back.)
I did not know that! Luke would definitely think that was quite the find too!
How fun to find a feather like that, it’s a really nice bonus!!!
a feather is a super treasure… maybe next time you will find a whole turkey? oh please call us, we bring da gravy and da mashed pawtatoes…
I’ll keep you posted and we’ll make a date!
Woofs, Luke
Turkey?!? Is that like a tasty whole chicken?! Err … no offense to your farm birds. Paws off! Even if they look tasty 😉
There’s a lot more meat on a wild turkey than a little chicken, Bear. We once had a cat who stalked some wild turkeys….I can totally see you doing that too! 🙂
