I used Picmonkey to add some color saturation to this photo, to enhance the purple of the mountains just a bit. This is the lovely view from our bedroom window, looking west as the sun is just rising.
A bit of trivia about the patriotic song “America the Beautiful”. Did you know the lyrics were originally written as a poem, by Katharine Lee Bates, in 1895? The tune was originally written as a hymn by Samuel A. Ward in 1892. The two were put together in 1910 to make this song.
The #52Snapshots challenge does not have to be about pets, but I like to at least include something pet related, so I’m adding this photo of Luke in silhouette with the same view behind him. I darkened this photo to make the silhouette, and again added some color saturation to enhance the purple of the mountains.

American the Beautiful should be our National Anthem. You have a gorgeous view. All I have is the Manhattan skyline. Bah!
I agree, it’s a beautiful song! We do love our view, but the city skyline is beautiful in it’s own way, don’t you think?
Beautiful pictures. Love the silhouette on.
Thank you!!
Both photos are great! What a lovely view you have from your window!
Thank you! We are very lucky to get to enjoy that view every day. Sometimes I have to remember not to take it for granted though.
That is the most awesome idea you came up with for the theme of “purple”, Jan! At some point, I looked at the themes, or whatever they are called, for the Snapshots challenge, and do think when I came upon “purple” I was like, what the heck, what would you ever come up with for that?? So kudos for what I think is a great idea!!
Well, I was lucky enough to wake up one morning and see those purple mountains that inspired me!
I’d love to see that view every day from my window!
We were actually very lucky when we found this piece of land to build on, twenty-something years ago!
Very pretty!!
Thank you!
Wow! I can’t believe that is your view! Thanks for sharing it. ♥
I’m so glad you enjoyed it too!
Lovely! I love the colors.
Thank you! Sometimes I think the camera just doesn’t catch the colors as they actually are, so I don’t feel too guilty just enhancing them a bit. 🙂
That sky is magnificent. Really wonderful photos JanK
It was nice to have clear skies and sunshine for a change! Thank you!
Beautiful!!! OH and look NO SNOW haha we are so sick of winter, these photos are so refreshing and give me hope for that spring season to arrive~
Oh, trust me, there’s snow, and a lot of it….you just can’t see it in these photos! 🙂
I think there’s still hope for spring though….
I appreciate you including not only the purple pictures with an explanation, but factoids on “American the Beautiful” AND a pleasing dog picture :-> It’s like you gave us all a gift basket. Thanks!
Oh, what a nice thing to say! That really made me smile. You are very welcome!
Wonderful pictures. I like how you added the enhancement.
Thank you!
These are great shots.
Thank you!
It’s a lovely view. The silhouette of Luke looks fantastic!
Thank you, Clowie. We’ve actually lost some of our view over the years. We’ve been here over 20 years and the trees have grown up a lot!
If we had this view from our bedroom window we would probably not leave the bedroom.
It’s tempting some days, that’s for sure! 🙂
Wonderful pictures to represent purple! Mom is saving hers for Friday and its not near as pretty, love the picture of Luke too! Love Dolly
Thank you, Dolly! I don’t think I’ve seen yours yet, but I’ll be looking for it.
I wish I had such a wonderful view from my bedroom too… purple is a great color, I wish the whole world would be Deep Purple :o)
I agree….I love Deep Purple too! 🙂
So pretty! We love picmonkey! Happy WW!
Thank you!!

Both pictures are absolutely beautiful, love what you did. Thanks for the trivia.
Thank you, and you’re welcome! I had to look up to make sure I got the quote right, and thought that tidbit was interesting!
Love the two photos – mine is nature inspired too.
I haven’t seen it yet, but can’t wait to!
Beautiful! 🙂
Thanks, Sheryl!
What a wonderful view to wake up to every day! That’ll put a smile on your face faster than any coffee. 🙂
So true! I still need my coffee though. 🙂
Beautiful photos!
Thank you, Sue!
Wonderful pictures! I appreciate you telling us about how you edited the photos. As someone who is fairly new to experimenting with all the digital editing software out there, little explanations like this go a long way.
Thank you! I know that I have found that photography tips on other sites have helped me (in fact, I think that’s where I learned about saturation), so I like to share it when I try something different.
Nice photo, love the silhouette of Luke in the second photo!
Thank you, Emma!
Gorgeous pictures Jan..what a stunning view..and bless Luke he looks very interested in something 🙂 great images and love the saturation effect 🙂 loves Bev xx
Thank you, Bev! We love our view, and Luke does like to look out those windows to keep an eye on things. xxoo
Nice view and nice photos! You guys are so lucky to have those mountains on your doorstep, I bet the dogs love being outdoors? The #52 Snapshots of Life challenge looks like fun! WW woofs from The Dogvine Crew
Thank you! Yes, we are very lucky. The dogs do love being outdoors…we have lots of woods right around us and they can watch for wildlife there!
