Can I just say that this 52 Snapshots of Life photo challenge can be difficult? It has definitely been a challenge for me so far! I especially had a tough time with this week’s theme of “dream”.
I didn’t want to do the obvious photo of one or more of the pets sleeping and maybe dreaming. I tried to think of something the dogs might dream of having….maybe a pool in the yard, or living on a lake. I couldn’t think of any way to photograph that! I ran through songs in my head “Daydream Believer”, “Dream On”, “All I Have to Do is Dream” (I had to look that one up because all I could remember was that it went “dream, dream, dream”).
Being the week of Martin Luther King Day, of course I thought of his famous speech, “I Have a Dream”, but I couldn’t find a way to relate it to a photograph of my pets (it doesn’t have to be about pets for this challenge, but I am trying to keep to pets as much as possible). I tried looking up other quotes about dreams but nothing was inspiring me. Maybe I’m just not feeling creative this week?
I did take this photo the other night, and I’m not thrilled with the quality of it…I took it inside in the evening with no natural light, and with my cell phone. But here it is.
It did, however, bring to mind something other than the thought that I wondered what they were all dreaming of. (Perhaps that they were lying in a warm sun puddle instead of in front of the warm wood stove, and they are longing for summer? Or was I just projecting that because it’s how I feel?)
When we adopted our cat Conrad from a shelter almost 16 years ago, he spent his first two weeks with us hiding under a bed. The first time I introduced him to our dog Shelby, it was a disaster, and I ended up with a shredded t-shirt. So all those years ago, and for many after, it was an impossible dream to imagine that he would ever be sleeping with the dogs. It took a lot of years, he’s really only become this social over the last couple. He even hangs around when company comes over! So even though I’m not very happy with the photo quality, I am happy with the sentiment behind it.
Is anyone else struggling with 52 Snapshots of Life this week? Don’t get me wrong, I am really enjoying it….and being challenged is the point of it! You can join in and challenge your own creativity too. You don’t have to be a blogger, you can share via social media using the hashtags #52Snapshots and #PBSG. Bloggers can join the hop which goes up on Fridays on The Lazy Pit Bull (I’ll add the code when it’s available tomorrow). Here is the list of themes:
We are also joining the Thoughtless Thursday blog hop hosted by Love is Being Owned by a Husky, M. K. Clinton, and Ruckus the Eskie . Thank you to all of our hosts, please visit them and others through the links below!
I love your photo! To me those simple moments when everyone is comfortable, together, and obviously content are a dream come true.
Thank you. It really is. We do need to savor the moments when everyone is at peace with each other!
Laughing as I read your post because I had exactly the same thoughts trying to come up with something creative: the songs, the speech, everything. Yes this one was hard and yes I finally settled for my pooch snoozing on the guest bed. It’s not just you 🙂
I’m glad it wasn’t just me! I guess we tried to be different, but maybe it just wasn’t possible with this one. 🙂 I’m going to head over to see yours, because I think I missed it (I ran out of time to visit everyone).
I think your photo looks fine, when I take one with my phone it looks horrible! So fuzzy, it’s pitiful LOL I too often wonder what Harley dreams of when he’s sleeping. He always looks so peaceful – like Luke does …
When we can finally get Luke to fall asleep…..he does sleep hard!
That actually is one of my better photos with the phone. I got that phone in particular for the good camera, but I haven’t really been that impressed so far!
Janet, I love the photo and the sentiment behind it. We have a senior cat, Isabel, and two dogs and Izzy has recently also become more social. I think maybe like human seniors, they fear less and worry less about stuff because they’ve seen so much and they are tired. Who knows? It’s the first time I’ve visited your blog and really like it. Would love for you to check out Bark & Swagger and, if you enjoy, to visit us! 🙂 Glad to have been introduced to your blog through #52Snapshots.
Hi Jody, thank you so much for coming by to visit us! The cats do seem to mellow out as they get older, don’t they? Our other cat Sam tends to hide out now, but I hope she’ll get more social at some point too (actually I think it’s mostly because Luke just loves to harass her, which she didn’t mind when he was little, but now, not so much).
I will definitely be by for a visit to Bark & Swagger (love that name)!
Don’t forget Blondie’s Dreamin’. This photo challenge is soooo much easier than the one I’ve done the past 3 years. Try to find a pic for Superfluous. I’m posting tomorrow.
Superfluous!? I barely know what it means, never mind capturing it in a photo…LOL. I guess I won’t complain any more. 🙂
Great photo, I love to see the dogs and cats sleeping by each other.
Thank you, I’m so glad I was able to capture that moment!
I think that photo is perfect. I just love it. 🙂
Thank you!
Such a lovely post, and so admirable that you are participating in the 52 snapshots of life!

Thank you! It seems like the perfect way to work on the photography skills, which need a lot of work! 🙂
I think that photo is an excellent choice!
Thank you, Rebekah!
We think you did really well with dream. And that’s a good picture of them all dreaming. It looks like they were good dreams.
Thank you, and I think they definitely were good dreams!
I’m right there with you on dreaming of summer! I love the picture–I tend to obsessively take pictures of Barley and Soth sleeping next to each other because once upon a time I didn’t think that would ever happen, so I love the sentiment behind your picture, too!
Oh, you really understand then. It’s so great when they learn to get along.
Great picture wonder what they’re dreaming? Love Dolly
Probably not about the same things, unless it was food! LOL
I found Dream to be a challenge. Quite frankly, I like people sharing pics of their pets sleeping. It’s sweet. And in your shot, having one (matching!) bed part way around a corner gives the shot real depth.
Oh, thank you! I love seeing photos of pets sleeping too, but I also really enjoyed your take on it with the daydreaming.
It looks like Luke is right up against him, that’s awesome!! Sampson would sometimes share a sunspot with Bob or Ollie, but not usually like that.
It really does amaze me to see Conrad like that with any of the dogs, but especially Luke who is known to harass him at other times!
Good buddies, like my Bailie and Bert. Cute pic.
It’s nice to see them getting along, isn’t it? Luke and Sam were buddies when he was smaller. But I think he got a bit too rambunctious for her when he got big. Conrad isn’t afraid of anything these days, which is so strange!
I like to think our dogs dream of running and chasing things. But, I am not sure of the cats. I definitely wonder about what they dream about.
Hmm…I wonder too. I don’t notice them twitching in their sleep like the dogs do.
Sweet photo – Luke is so big now…amazing. The photo challenge is just that, a challenge…
You are right, that is what it’s all about. Yes, Luke is so big, it’s hard to believe.
I always think it is funny when the boys “talk” or “run” in their sleep! Bahahaha!
It is too funny….they really get going sometimes!
that’s a great photo… they dream together and it has a message: if dogs and cats can dream together, we people should learn that too :o)
Easy, you are so right!! Thank you!
I love how Luke’s head is resting on Conrad’s bed – isn’t that a representation of “the dream” too? That those of opposite types, beliefs, ideas, etc all get along and accept each other? I think this picture is a perfect representation of the bigger picture – the ideal dream.
Yes, you are so right, Daisy. Thank you for articulating what I couldn’t quite get my mind around to!
I love how Luke is sharing the bed. That is super cute!
I’m honestly not sure which of them was there first, but I do think it was Conrad. It’s sweet that Luke shared when he could have easily pushed the old guy out! Well, maybe not…..LOL….the old guy can be stubborn.
Interesting. I have often wondered what my pets dream of. I know some of the time my huskies like to run in their sleep and howl too, so I can only imagine they must be chasing some type of animal! BOL!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
So true….and just as I was sitting here writing my post, with the dogs sleeping on the couch behind me, I heard someone’s tail thumping away! They were definitely having a happy dream!
