Update on Sheba
Sheba finally got the rest of her stitches out this past Monday! However, we do still have to keep her quiet for a bit longer. We called the vet on Monday because we were still having to drain fluid. We took her in to see him (our regular vet, who did the surgery, had been on vacation but he was thankfully back). He removed the stitches and really thought everything looked good. He told us to stop draining the fluid and just watch it. A little buildup was OK, he said that would eventually re-absorb itself as it finished healing. He decided to put her on antibiotics for one week, and if she continued to build up fluid, he would have to put a drain in. So far, I’m happy to say (and knock wood as I say it) that she has a little bit of fluid buildup still, but it is not increasing. As soon as that goes down, we’re hoping in just a few days, she can finally go back to playing! She still feels great, and is being a trooper about not being able to play yet.

Once she is done healing, I feel like I can finally focus on what we’re going to do to try to fight the cancer from coming back. I’m currently researching supplements and diets.
We Made the News!
The BFTB (Barking from the Bayou) Channel 7 NETWoof News, that is! Have you seen this news report before? You can find it every Monday on MKClinton.com. These are only the cutest news anchors I’ve ever seen, and they even have a weather girl, Paisley the chocolate lab puppy! Go on over every Monday and get all the important pet news and a huge dose of cuteness as well.

We were excited to win Rejeneril by Ultimate Pet, a cellular supplement for dogs and cats, that reduces joint pain and boosts natural energy. With a house full of senior pets (Luke is the only exception), and one recovering from surgery, this is definitely something we can use. Thanks to Ultimate Pet and Melissa and the whole gang at Barking from the Bayou!
That’s not the only thing we won recently, we also won this cool Collar ID tag from Ann and her crew at Pawsitively Pets. This ID wraps around a collar and fastens with Velcro.

What I love most about it is the fact that you can tuck other tags (such as rabies or town license tags) inside a little pocket. If you have a dog with a white neck and chest, you might have noticed that metal tags can leave a gray stain on your dog’s neck and chest. It’s difficult to see in this photo, and I think Cricket gets cleaned off in the snow some too, but can you see that gray wash across her chest?
That is not the color of her fur, and that drives me crazy. For some reason metal tags do that. Now with Collar ID we can have those required tags on her, but they won’t be hanging on her neck. We might have to get one of these for Luke as well. Thank you to Ann and Collar ID! You can learn more and get your own by clicking here.
Easy Giveaway
We received the third book in the Real Dogs Cook series of cookbooks, Spaghetti for Sheepdogs, and we have two copies to give away as well. This edition is written by Mona Lassie Buonarroti, an Italian sheepdog who married an American Dalmatian named Bruno! Mona and Bruno still sometimes bunk at a firehouse in New York, which led to fun recipes like “Bruno’s Firehouse Favorite: Baked Rigatoni & Baby Meatballs”. Each recipe has an accompanying photo, and these dishes look yummy! Mona Lassie will also tell you a little bit more about her exciting life with her husband who is famous in his own right.
We’re making this giveaway simple, all you have to do is leave a comment saying that you would like to win! This giveaway is open to everyone, age 18 and older, but void where prohibited by law. It will be open for one week, ending on Thursday March 5th at midnight EST. I will do a random draw from the names of those who enter.
Don’t want to wait for the giveaway? You can order your own copy of this fun book on amazon.com by clicking here.

it looks so funny 😀
It really is a funny book! You are entered, and good luck!
I ordered the collar id tags yesterday. I only wonder how much of their hair will get caught up in the Velcro, but I like the idea of not having the tags hanging down.
I would like to win the book.
So glad to hear you ordered some! I haven’t run into trouble with fur in the Velcro yet.
You are entered in the giveaway, and good luck!
I want to win! Looks like such a fun book!

I wasn’t sure if the Collar ID would work on the paracord collar, but it does!
I will enter you into the drawing…it really is a cute and fun little book.
Thanks for the update on Sheba! I am glad to hear the vet thinks it is healing nicely. Hopefully it stays that way. Congrats on winning those giveaways!! Well done!

so glad Sheba is doing better! Not entering the give-away because we have been reviewing the entire series on Dakota’s blog, they are so cute!
They are fun books, aren’t they? Thank you about Sheba…we are so excited to finally see her really improving.
Thanks for joining the blog hop! I’m so excited to hear Sheba is doing so well. Have you heard of Turmeric? It’s supposed to be a great cancer fighter in dogs (as well as people.) This brand (http://www.nutrigold.com/Turmeric-Curcumin) is a great brand. I’m going to be using it for Delilah.
Congrats on your winnings!
Yes, Jodi, thank you so much, turmeric is one of the things I’ve been looking into! I’m excited to hear that you will be trying it as well, and thank you so much for sharing that link.
Good news on Sheba. I bet she will be happy to get out and play again. Congrats on your winnings and thanks so much for joining the hop!
Thank you, and you’re welcome! We are having a good weekend, with the weather improving, and Sheba improving as well!
Hope Sheba continues to feel better. As for the grey marks from the tags, Katie used to get that from her tags in Germany, here it doesn’t happen at all. Mom bought Quiet Spot Tag Silencers in several fun collars. They work great, never had one fall off and used them for years, put them in the washing machine and let them air dry when they got dirty. You may want to try them if you continue to have issues. They are on Amazon, and many sites at all different prices, but this site shows you what they are. http://www.itzadog.com/
Thank you for sharing that, Emma, I am definitely going to look at those…I trust that also makes the tags quieter which would be nice when Cricket decides to scratch herself in the middle of the night!
Sheba is doing very well….tomorrow I will have a photo to show that!
First, yay Sheba! I’m so glad she’s on the mend (and that you’re regular vet is back home to check her out). Second, I was just noticing that Barley’s neck/chest was grey and grubby looking and I couldn’t figure out why! Thanks for solving that mystery for me. I think with her thicker winter coat her tags must have more contact with her white fluff. And that book looks so cute!
I think it took me a while to figure out what was going on with the tags. We have stainless steel ID tags that don’t do that, but we can’t tell the town or state what to make their tags out of! You are probably right that it’s worse in the winter…Cricket’s fur especially gets very thick around her neck in the winter.
YAY! Thanks so much for the shout-out! I hope you have the same kind of results with the Rejeneril that I have had with Bentley. It is truly incredible and I am a lifelong fan now! Congratulations on all of your winning ways! Give Sheba a kiss from the Bayou gang!
You are so welcome! Sheba gives you a big kiss back!
That’s great news for Sheba! Keeping our paws crossed for her!
Thank you…I think it’s working! 🙂
Great news about Sheba, Jan. We will keep praying and thinking happy thoughts. Cool winnings you’ve got there. I’m interested in the supplement so please keep us posted. Have a great day and stay warm.
I think your prayers and thoughts are helping….I’ll show you why in Sunday’s post.
I will definitely keep you posted on the Rejeneril.
The weather is improving here….very slowly…but we might actually be able to get outside more this week. Fingers crossed!
I knock on wood too for your Sheba, hope the antibiotucs help and chase all bad things away.
Congrats to your ins, the id-tag looks great and I would like to hear more when you tried the Rejeneril :o)
I won such a fabulous book from Dakota, it’s BBQ for Bulldogs, it’s great that we dogs have our own cookbooks!
The cookbooks are fun, aren’t they?
I will keep you posted on the Rejeneril!
Things are looking good for Sheba…come back tomorrow to see! 🙂
