If our beagle Cricket could talk, “I can’t do that.” or “I need help.” are not phrases that would be in her vocabulary. Even at 13 years old, with arthritis and a bad heart, you can’t tell her that she can’t do something.
Case in point: When playing outside recently (before the last huge snowstorm), Luke got the ball and decided it was time to play keep away from his sister and me. His favorite thing to do is to take the ball up on “snow mountain” (the pile of snow on our patio that comes from all that falls off the roof), where it’s harder for Cricket or I to get to him.

Since the size of the mountain had reduced, his plan didn’t work – we were both able to get there. I wasn’t there yet, but when I looked over I could see that he no longer had the ball, and that Cricket was nowhere to be seen. He was on the area that is where the hot tub is, and there were two patio chairs stored next to it by the bench. While there was still snow on top of the hot tub, it had melted where the chairs were. It didn’t take me long to figure out that Luke had dropped the ball into the hole that had created, and Cricket had gone after it. When I got over there, I saw this:

I thought to myself that I was probably going to have to lie down in the snow and haul her back out of there. Silly me! She was going to do this on her own, and there was no stopping her!

This little beagle can do whatever she sets her mind to. ♥

Good job cricket!
Don’t let Cricket watch that video of the beagle getting his snacks out of the cupboard. Way to go Cricket!
Oh, you’re right about that, Edie….we’d be in big trouble if she got that idea in her head! 🙂
