We don’t use crates in our home for the dogs all the time. We only have one right now, and we use it for certain occasions. When we have strangers over, Luke can stay in there safely away from them, and when we have any kind of construction work being done, Cricket can be in it out of the way. (When there’s noisy work being done Luke is happier down in the bedroom.) They are also useful if anyone is injured or recovering from surgery of any kind.

The truth is neither of the dogs love being in there very much. It’s not that they don’t like the crate, they just don’t like being separated from any of the action; Luke especially wants to be close to us, but he just can’t be trusted around strangers because of his fears.
I need to remember to get the crate out every so often to be sure both dogs still feel comfortable in there and that they don’t see it as an unhappy place of confinement. When we got the chance to try out Molly Mutt’s new Sheepy™ wool-filled bed, it was the perfect time to get the crate out and give it a little upgrade.
I’ve always had flat crate pads in there, and while there’s nothing wrong with that, why not make the crate into an even more comfy spot for the dogs when they need to be confined?
The sheepy is an all-around bed, though made especially for crates. The wool filling is perfect for dog crate pads, because it is 100% natural (which makes me happy!); it’s anti-microbial yet chemical and pesticide free. Their wool is sustain-ably sourced from a farm in California. Wool will last a lifetime and it stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer. Wool is also self-cleaning; this bed will wick away dog drool, urine, and smell.

The Sheepy comes in several different colors, and I knew immediately that I wanted the bright and colorful “time after time” pattern, to help make the crate a more cheerful place. They have matching crate covers as well, so you can really dress it up!

The cover is durable just like our other Molly Mutt bed. Cricket always puts that right to the test. I had no sooner set up the crate, put the bed in, and she was over there scratching away at it! I almost panicked – I still had to take photographs! – but I remembered she had done the same thing to our Molly Mutt duvet and you could never see a scratch.

This bed is easy to keep clean. The cotton cover is machine washable and comes out looking just as good as when it went in (I have tested this with our other bed). The wool is also easy to keep clean, all you do is air it out outside in the sun.

We spend most of our time when we’re indoors in our open concept dining/living room area, that’s where I have the crate set up. The dogs have two other beds, plus our couch and overstuffed chair to lie on. Cricket especially has added the crate to her “rotation” of places to sleep, I think she is very happy with the upgrade.

We have a very large crate, so I got the largest size Sheepy available (big – 36” x 24” x 2.5”) yet the bed still didn’t quite fit our whole crate. When I saw the gap left I immediately thought of our bolster pillow that came with our Molly Mutt stuff-able duvet. It filled in the empty spot perfectly! I believe the big size would fit better in most large crates, however, we have what I think is about the biggest soft-sided crate you can get!
Another thing I like about this bed is that it is lightweight. While I love our Molly Mutt duvet, when I have it stuffed full, it can be on the heavy side. I took this crate pad right out onto the deck for the dogs. We like to sit outside in the mornings and evenings, and the dogs usually either stay inside where they’re more comfy or lay on the flat rug in front of the door. They were both happy and took turns trying it out on the deck.

The cotton material made it easy to brush off the dirt; though I would not take it outside if the deck was wet. However, Molly Mutt does make a water-resistant duvet if that is something important to you.

Mollymutt has a wide variety of patterns to choose from, I think my favorite is the Northwestern Girls.
Romeo & Juliet for our Maisie, who hopefully will not be a single dog much longer. Love some of the other patterns as well, but blue’s best 😉
Ooohhh….a new family member coming? Now that’s exciting, and they should have a new bed too! Good luck!
Mostly it’s just one of my four dogs that loves her crate.
I like the amarillo by morning wool-filled dog bed. Thanks!
I just recently came across the brand Molly Mutt when browsing (round) dog beds on Amazon! What a cool coincidence that you’re writing about Molly Mutt’s beds now. My pups are allowed on the furniture and sleep on my bed at night (love that feeling of protection), but they also have beds – funny enough, the beds are in their crates which are permanently set up in the living room. They usually stay open and the pups just walk in and out of there as they please. I’m looking for a doggie bed that can sit outside on our patio come fall, so I loved seeing your picture of Luke lounging on his outside.
I think Cricket just loves having a variety of places to sleep, and she tries to use them all. I wish we had just a little more room so we could keep the crate out all of the time. Maybe with a little rearranging we’ll find a spot! Of course, it doesn’t help that I had to get the biggest crate out there. LOL
I love the bleecker street pattern!
The simple, wild horses pattern is my favorite for my yellow Lab, as the fur would not be so noticeable 🙂
Unfortunately, my dog passed away this past June due to cancer. He did have a “crate/cage”, however it wasn’t something he really used. He would go in there on his own very rarely. There was a crate mat in there that was great quality. Mostly the cat used the crate/cage, as she slept on top of it. However, if I were to win this, the molly mutt sheepy wool bed would be for my 2 cats that I have. They would absolutely love one of these beds.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your dog, Ashley. Good luck in the giveaway, I am sure your cats would love this bed!
Thanks! He was diagnosed with cancer and we were driving 3 hours for the diagnosis and treatment… Got a great check up 3 days before we had to put him to sleep. No clue what happened to him but we didn’t want him to suffer, so unfortunately, he had to be put to sleep.
However, I know my cats would just love this bed. Anything they can lay on, they typically end up loving. Lol.
You can always tell if the bed is super comfy when you hear the Doodle snore!
Yes, that is a sure sign!! Cricket is quite the snorer too!
my favorites are the lady in red and the rough gem.
One of my dogs, Sammi, who was rescued from a puppy mill where she lived in a cage loves to lie in her crate all day, though at our house the door to it is always open!
I love that. I’m so happy Sammi is in a happy home with no closed crates now.
What a cool crate mat, love the colors.
Romeo & Juliet is my favorite!
I like the green title track pattern
Amarillo by Morning
I love the Elephant Parade pattern!
I like the Time after Time cover the best. These look so comfy, my dogs would love it.
I have Elephant Parade and I’m still in love with it!
I like the Romeo and Juliet. Mr. N has a crate in the living room but we really only use it for when delivery people are over. It’s open the rest of the time so he can go in if he likes.
We don’t really have a lot of extra room to have the crate out all of the time, so I usually bring it out when I think we’ll be needing it soon.
I kept it set up in the bedroom for a while, hoping Luke would sleep in it, but he only ever went in when we were training and I told him to!
Northwestern Girls would be so cute for my springer Chloe!
You all are picking out some patterns I never even heard of! I had to go back and look at them again. 🙂 Love that plaid too – so cute!
I think i would go with the I’m a realist bed. It is simple and matches my living room.
Simple is always good!!
We have one that you stuff, but it is hard for Layla especially as she is getting older so would love to win this which looks so much softer, the sheepy I’m a realist is what I would choose as she sleeps under blankets and they are all pinks or purples.
Having that inner liner is a fantastic way to help keep the wool clean and make it easy to launder the outer cover. Looks like a great bed.
My favorite is the northwestern girls duvet! LOVE Molly Mutt beds!
Karma chameleon! How pretty is that green!? And would make my black pup more visible!! 😂
That would be a perfect background for a black pup – I love that green too!
Amarillo is my favorite sheepy pattern. My Gadwall would love one and I would love my blankets not being dragged all across my house! (He will drag a blanket across the house to make a bed if there isn’t a bed close enough to us)
That must be so cute! Ours will rearrange blankets sometimes, but they’ve never relocated them!
The Amarillo is so dreamy that I wish that I could get one human-sized for me, but I know my boy, Samson would LURVE/LOVE/LUV to sleep on it and dream on it. Speaking of dreaming, did you notice that the print is basically a dream – dogs, squirrels, treats, fire hydrants, and plants! Those are my dog’s favorite things ever.
I sleep on a wool pillow and hopefully (squee!), Samson will be able to, too! To too two 🙂
Yes – that is the pattern we have for our stuffable duvet – definitely every dog’s dream!
Oh, I’ve never tried a wool pillow, that sounds like a good idea.
We’d like the Karma Chameleon pattern the best! We haven’t tried the crate pads but love our duvet.
Elephant parade
My house is filled with Molly Mutt stuff! Beds in the kitchen and crate covers in the living room. We’d love the crate pad in Royals to match Boca’s crate cover!
The best endorsement is if the pups go in the crate just because they like the bed 🙂 I love that it’s so easy to clean too!
I need easy with anything that involves “cleaning”. LOL
100,000 fireflies!!! 😍
Amarillo by morning
Romeo & Juliet!
When I first adopted my three Treeing Walker Coonhounds (Kenji, Kyoko, and Seiji) it was over a one-year period, and not long after I adopted my deaf hound girl, Ran (she passed two years ago at only five years old after developing an autoimmune disorder). With the dogs coming to me long-distance and not knowing if there would be behavior problems, they all had crates to begin with. As they adapted to life here, I kept their crates, but left them open. I just have two now in the TV room – for Seiji and Kyoko – and need Kyoko’s since I do close her in her crate when they eat (otherwise she’d inhale her own food and then eat both boys’ dinners). I was going to take down Seiji’s, but he still likes to go in it. Mostly when he’s tired or stressed, but sometimes just because. Two of our cats like to chill in his crate from time to time, too, so I keep his up. Kyoko will sleep on the couch next to me or in her crate, so I am keeping hers available to her, too. I had never used a dog crate until I adopted my Ran, but now I can’t imagine not having one or two available to my furbabies.
Crates are a lifesaver when bringing new dogs or puppies home! Luke was the first dog we got serious with, and it made life so much easier when he was a puppy. I only wish we hadn’t let it go after he got older, because I had to re-train him when we needed to use one again!
Time after Time would be perfect for my princess!
Well, my favorite color is blue so I’ve always loved the Romeo & Juliet design the best. While a large would be the best size for my pack, I’m sure they’ll get use of the medium if I’m lucky enough to win (my Kyoko is my smallest and she sleeps curled up).
My dogs love the Molly Mutt bed we have, but it is heavy. I think the sheepy is a fantastic idea. I can’t decide between the rough gem wool and romeo and juliet!
I have issues with grip in my hands, and I’ve had to ask my hubby to move the stuffed duvet to another room sometimes!
They really have a great selection of patterns, making it hard to choose.
I love the time after time pattern!
I like the lady in red duvet one 🙂
The boys would love this bed for their kennel. My laptop died so I am formatting my new one. I’ll come back and enter when it’s up and running. We received our mat from your contest. I’m saving it to give them when we move. Hopefully our house will sell soon and I can let them enjoy it in our new place!
I would definitely LOVE the sheepy armadillo cover!
Good luck with selling your house!! Have you found a new place already? I think the mat will be a great distraction for the boys when you’re getting settled into a new home.
We think this bed would be purrfect for us cats! We like purple, so we like the Royal one. Though one of the black and white ones would be more practical. 🙂
Sometimes practical is good, but sometimes color is more fun! 🙂 We definitely think you cats would enjoy this bed!
Barley and Rye think we can never have too many beds around the house and since Soth is always stealing them, the ones in the crates are always the favorites 🙂 I like the pattern you chose, too! But I think the Royals is my favorite.
The Royal is definitely a pretty color, it doesn’t go too well with our decor though, or I also might have picked it. 🙂
that is a great bed but for the first time I am not going to enter. I have virtually given up on Dakota and beds. He MUCH prefers the floor. I think it is a Shetland Sheepdog thing (because I know many others that are like him). I think all of his fur is like a built-in bed lol. Also, when we enter for Dakota, Cody just ends up using the bed and he has too many. Good luck to all who enter!
Did you run this by Cody to be sure he was OK with you not entering? LOL
I wonder if it is a thing that more long-haired dogs prefer to sleep on the floor. Sheba was like that too. Maybe it could be a coolness thing too – the floor is cooler to them as well (unless you have carpets, which I don’t know, but we’ve had wood so I think that was part of it for Sheba).
Love the crate pillow. We need one for our car crate
Lily & Edward
We love the time after time print
This would be perfect for traveling, since it’s so lightweight!
Those do look nice and darn comfy too!
No they dfo not sleep in a crate.
The sheepy, royals wool the one I like
This is ideal for us and Daisy because we love things made from sustainable sources and we only use organic/chemical-free things in our home. Daisy loves her crate so much, we have to leave it out with the door open so she can go in whenever she feels like “going home”. 🙂 I love the patterns on their website – I think the Romeo and Juliet would be lovely for Daisy! It’s rare for me to enter giveaways, but this product is perfect for us.
Wouldn’t Daisy look pretty on that bed! Good luck! I love that you live a chemical-free life as well.
I wish that Luke would use his crate more, as a safe place. Instead he goes down into our bedroom closet when he needs to feel safer. I’d rather have him out here with us.
Whoa, that’s one terrific looking bed. We would certainly put to good use that gorgeous blue Romeo & Juliet one!
That dark blue is so pretty!
Our favorite napping spot in the house is our wicker crate with the Molly Mutt bed inside. It is in use almost constantly by one of us. Mom has thought about getting a second one, but then she figures it wouldn’t be the same. The wooly is new for us! We would love one in the amarillo by morning pattern.
I imagine if your Mom got a second one, you’d all still want to sleep in the same one anyway! 🙂
Our duvet is in the amarillo by morning pattern – love that one too!
