Summer weekend mornings are THE best. If there is nowhere we have to be and nothing urgent to do, as soon as the sun rises above the trees in the backyard, I take my coffee out onto the deck. Nights tend to be cool here, so I like to wait for that bit of extra warmth. My hubby and the dogs soon join me.

Sometimes we have the TV on in the house so we can listen to the local news and weather in the background, but often I shut it off and the only thing we listen to is the sound of the birds singing. The dogs will cruise around the yard sniffing or just hang out. They’re just biding their time until they can talk me into throwing the ball for them.
We’re alternately watching them just enjoy the outdoors, or we’re watching the birds (and chipmunks) on the nearby feeder, or the robins feeding their babies in the nest one tree over from the deck. This is the second nest of robins we’ve gotten to watch this summer!

You can probably hear my sigh of contentment from there.

There’s only one thing that could be better….a long holiday weekend like we just had when we have an extra day to enjoy this, or even better, in a couple of weeks we have vacation coming up (or “staycation” as they say) so we’ll get a week of this bliss!
Have you taken our toxic plants quiz? Click here to test your knowledge on a variety of garden flowers, and you could win a cute garden flag and some treats for your pet(s)! Hurry…it’s only open through Friday! We’ve got some great guesses so far!
Sounds wonderful. When we are at the cabin we enjoy mornings like yours. We can watch the birds and squirrels and chipmunks. No tv though, we really don’t get good reception there.
The chipmunks are so entertaining sometimes! We were laughing and laughing the other day as we watched one try to jump from the bird feeder pole to the bird feeder. He kept falling to the ground, but eventually he figured out how to get on there! It was like you could see him thinking about it and trying to figure it out…LOL.
I’m so happy to hear your “happiness” through your writing. Enjoy your Saturday mornings – they sound doodle*licious 🙂
Oh, how I envy you the cool evenings and just warm enough morning of summer in the upper Northeast!! The bugs come out at 6 am and don’t go back underground until way past midnight around here. And they love me, too, even though I do not love them. BUT in the spring and late fall, I do get to enjoy my morning coffee outside while the girls look for their perfect spot. Hubby prefers drinking his coffee to the sounds of MSNBC and CNN. Ugh.
We had more issues with bugs here in the spring – and they love me too! Luckily they mostly disappear once the sun is up. Fall will be nice, though I might have to bundle up a bit in the mornings! 🙂
My hubby would leave the TV on all day if I didn’t shut it off, but mostly he’s not even watching or listening to it anyway!
So lovely to be outside. I like to listen to the noises out in our yard too,
Nothing like sitting outside with a cup of coffee (um, or a cocktail…) to make me feel like I’m on vacation. Lovely!
I do the evening cocktails too – but usually by then the dogs are all passed out!
Very nice deck. I love lazy weekend mornings.
What a relaxing way to spend a summer day.
We LOVE summer day mornings
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
It’s great when you can take some time just to enjoy your life! Love Dolly
I love those mornings. A nip of Bailey’s in my coffee and I’m pretty content. 🙂 Although we have a lot of trees so we also have a lot of bugs and they LOVE me. We do have a screen porch though and it is nice to spend mornings and evenings out there.
Looks like a great place to chill.
We have a lot of trees around too. The bugs were bad in the spring, and I wondered if we wouldn’t end up screening in our deck someday too. But so far they’ve been OK in the morning. I think it helps to wait for the sun to get higher too. If I went out earlier it might be buggier.
The bugs also love me so I know what you mean. In the spring, I had to take Benadryl some nights because I was itching so much from bug bites! I think I have a little bit of an allergy to them because they itch intensely for DAYS.
How relaxing. And we love when we have nesting birds and baby birds in our yard.
That is the perfect backyard. So peaceful.
I can feel the peacefulness from here!
Your yard looks perfect! I’m glad you’re all enjoying it so much.
You and Barley will get there with your yard too!!
I agree – mornings and evenings spent outside listening to nature are the best. Lately it’s been too humid here to do even that, no matter how early I get up. The pups look like they’re guarding your deck very nicely! 🙂
We’ve been having some humid weather, but it hasn’t been oppressive. Even the evenings outside have been nice (until the bugs come out!). This weekend looks like it’s going to be rainy though, so I’m glad we had that extra day last weekend!
Sounds heavenly! What a perfect way to ease into a weekend morning!
You sure did find the perfect home for you and your family. It’s so great to feel how happy you all are there. Work does put a damper on the good life, but Mom says we need the green papers to live, so she keeps working. I’m sure you will truly enjoy your vacation at home!
Looks like everyone – human and pup – loves the new yard……nice shade combined with sun and a pretty deck to watch it all from. Life is good!! Enjoy!!
Hugs, Pam and Sam
I so agree with you… and I enjoy this morning like a spa-treatment… they always remind me of this ole song by cat stevens :o)
