I could not live anywhere but in the country. I don’t think I could breathe if I didn’t have nature right outside my door….and windows – especially in the winter when sometimes it’s nicer to be inside looking out! When we bought this new home, an old farmhouse, almost three years ago now, the first thing we did was add a sliding door and window on the end of the house so we could see into the backyard. We have not regretted it one day since. That’s exactly where Luke was standing while watching the deer in our recent post.
For this Nature Friday blog hop, we wanted to share some photos from around the farm. We may not always love the cold, but you sure can’t argue with the beauty of the snow!
This is what you see when pulling into our homestead:
Looking back towards the road. You’ve probably seen the side of our pole barn in a lot of my photos. It’s one of my favorite scenes, with our flag on the side (which I got when at the BlogPaws conference in SC) and our old wagon wheel we found on the property.
Our recent snowstorm caused the wire roof of the chicken run to come down! You can see the heavy snow piled on top…no wonder, and the wire hanging down in the back. The birds aren’t worried though (and no one tried to fly out)!

As you know, Luke and I try to get out on our trails every day that the weather allows.
See all the tracks in the photo below? Those are all from the deer Luke was watching the other day. They came back that night and came even closer to the house. Good thing Luke is a sound sleeper!
We’re expecting another HUGE snow storm on Sunday. These poor trees just barely got rid of all that snow from the last storm!
What a beautiful sky on our walk this day! This shot was taken as Luke and I walked down where our vegetable garden is, looking up towards our upper lot. We actually have three lots, each 5-6 acres, and our house is on the center one.
I’m pretty sure Luke loves it here too!

Are you and your pets country or city lovers?
Thank you to our friends at Living, Laughing & Barking in Our Backyard for hosting the Nature Friday hop! Please visit other blogs through the links below to enjoy more of nature’s beauty.
We are team country. All the way! Your little farm is amazing, I don’t know if I’d ever be inside, I think I’d be out on those trails. 🙂
The only thing that keeps us in is frigid cold or pouring rain! 🙂
I love the country but enjoy city living. We did the country early in our marriage and love the convenience of living close to everything. The snow is incredible but too cold for my wimpy southern self! LOL!
Those conveniences can be very important too; there are some things I sometimes miss about living closer to “civilization” as we joke.
Our temperatures have been SO cold here the last couple of days, we might have to come visit you!!
We are city dwellers but seeing all that beautiful countryside and snow makes me very envious! Thanks for sharing the lovely photos of Luke – he looks very content! Our German shepherd would love the fresh air and the wide open spaces. I guess I am a country boy at heart so perhaps it’s time to leave the stress of city life behind!
It’s a nice place to retire to, whenever that time is for you!! 🙂
Your property is gorgeous! I live in a small town, but we have a big back yard with woods. We have deer pretty regularly, along with raccoons, skunks, squirrels and possums. Every now and then we see a red fox close to the house. One year we had a mom fox and her kits just behind the fenced in yard, it was pretty awesome!
Thank you! It sounds like you live in a very nice place too!
No doubt – Luke loves it! You are giving him the best life in the world!!! I always love seeing his red coat with his black and white fur. It’s perfect!
Thank you SO much for saying that. ♥
Beautiful pics of the farm and some of its residents! Country girl here agrees! I couldn’t be cooped up! No pun intended, the birds love their coop, lol.
You just gave me the idea for my next post with that comment, thanks Lynn!!
What beautiful property!! We live in a very remote part of the country, more than 300 miles to the nearest city(and mall)…While I really enjoy the beauty of country living, I think I may be a “suburbs” kinda gal.
The only thing I do lament is the lack of good shopping close by. But we’re not even as far from a good mall as you are! Thank goodness for the internet and online shopping, right?
So pretty! Living in the country sure looks relaxing.
It is – very much so!!
Beautiful photos. I love living in the country too. I do like an occasional visit to NYC though.
The city can be fun to visit!
What a magical wonderland your farmstead is! Stay cozy and warm this weekend.
The only way we could accomplish that was by staying inside as much as possible! We’re getting stir crazy now though!
I agree I could do without the freezing cold but I to love the winter snow photos. Beautiful place!!
Thank you, JoAnn! It’s been crazy cold here the last few days, double digit below zero wind chills. We’re in hibernation mode and can’t wait to come out of it, hopefully tomorrow it gets better!
We live in a very small town. Country living is way better than the big city. I can’t take the big city.
Beautiful area. Handsome Luke.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. ♥
We are kindred spirits then!
When I visit the city, I’m a nervous wreck…all that traffic and all those people….LOL.
Thank you!
It sure is pretty there and we totally understand why you love it. We’d love to live out in the country too, way out!
We got really lucky in finding this place. It was our dream, but we never thought we’d realize it. Maybe someday you will too!
Those are indeed beautiful pictures of your estate!
Gail and I have one foot/paw in both camps, with a house the city (convenient for work and also, praise be, near a nice park) and a cottage in a remote part of the NW Scotland – 65 miles ftom the nearest big town.
Happy Nature Friday!
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
Thank you! You definitely have it made then….your cottage sounds wonderful!
Oh my goodness – your house and property is Heaven on Earth! It’s just beautiful! We would DIE if we had to live in the city.
It sure is heaven here, and a dream come true for us. Yup, we agree, we would die if we had to live in the city too!!
Wow just a prime example of why living in the country side is so awesome! This is similar to how our farm looks excluding all the snow. I wouldn’t live any other way!
It’s a dream come true for us. While our last house was rural, we didn’t have the land or privacy that we have here. It’s perfect….and sounds like you know exactly what I mean! ♥
It looks beautiful there. Winter is so pretty. Mom could never live in the city or the country. She loves the suburbs. Some space, but people nearby. Everyone has their place.
Your Mom probably enjoys the best of both worlds…that’s a good choice!
I’m with you… even when it becomes more and more complicated to live not in a town I will pull through in the rurals as long as I can… I would feel like a bird in a cage when I had to live in a big town…
Exactly!!
A fitting kingdom for a young pup 🙂
What a truly beautiful place that you call home! I totally get what you’re saying about living in the country, I don’t want to go back to suburban living either – I think I’d make a terrible neighbor! 🙂 But I hope you’ve not gotten too clobbered by this weather everyone is having. We’re just having high winds and near zero temps – Time to throw another dog on the bed to keep us warm!
Take care, and have a good week!
We got some snow again, but it’s been the cold temperatures keeping us inside more. It was below zero for a couple days, and double digits below with the wind chill! I think we’re finally coming out of that today, and then we’re going to get some rain. Crazy weather!!
Yes, indeed!! 🙂
