We told you a couple of weeks ago about the excitement around here when we started getting fresh dog food delivery from NomNomNow right to our door. If you missed it, you can find it here: Our New Excitement: Fresh Dog Food Delivery!
Adding that nutritious food to Cricket and Luke’s diets was something I wanted to do for their overall health, and for our convenience. However, as it turns out, it also had an unexpected benefit that I didn’t even know we needed when I placed our first order. It came at exactly the right time.

Earlier this week I wrote about a health issue we’ve been having with our beagle Cricket (It’s All Relative – When Bad News Can Seem Almost Good). Not only had she developed a cough and her energy level seemed a bit down; we started to see a reduction in her appetite. One concern I never had when starting NomNomNow was whether the dogs would like it. They are a beagle and a Labrador retriever mix, after all, pickiness is not in their nature.
Before the first food arrived, my hubby let me know that Cricket hadn’t been eating well in the morning. He is the one that feeds most of the meals around here, especially the morning ones. I don’t care to be up at the crack of dawn with the rest of them!
Their routine is they get up, the dogs go outside while Dadz prepares breakfast, and then they come in to eat. Luke was at the door waiting impatiently in the mornings but Cricket was hanging around outside and often not coming in until Luke had already eaten. While Cricket would eat her breakfast, she would have to be enticed with a nibble of cat food or something else tempting.
Every time in the past we’ve seen this morning reduction in appetite with any of our dogs was when they were older and/or had a health issue. Therefore, it always worries me, especially when it’s the beagle. While we had veterinarian visits scheduled to find out what was going on with her, we still needed to get her eating.
Enter NomNomNow, just when we needed it. Adding that fresh food to the top of her regular kibble brought a new excitement to mealtime, not just in the morning but in the evening as well! She hadn’t been overly excited about evening meals either, choosing to lie in her bed and wait pretty much until she was called into the kitchen to eat.

Once we started adding this gently cooked dog food, made with all-natural ingredients, to the meals, Cricket was excited again. Dadz reported that she was right at the door next to Luke in the mornings, waiting impatiently to come in. I also saw her hanging around outside the kitchen at evening meal times when before she had been sleeping at that time. She’s even started letting him know when it’s supper time!

While I’m happy to see Cricket back in the kitchen enthusiastically waiting for her meals, I’m also pleased to be able to provide cooked to order meals, with all ingredients from the USA, while getting out of the kitchen myself! Each meal is individually portioned for easy serving, making the early morning routine easy for the Dadz too. Everyone is on board and happy!

Was looking for a perfect alternative to current dry food of my dizzy and since last few days she had started rejecting it. Yeah, might be she is not interested in same food so will have to try NomNomNow and will plan a periodically changing diet as well.
I hope that works for you and Dizzy!
The NonNomNow sounds like a great service. I will have to give it a try. I’m sure my Ben and Jerry would love the food. 🙂
I hope they like it! Love the names!!
I’m glad you found something to help get her appetite running again. Not typical for labs or beagles to have that loss of enthusiasm for their meals.
I always tell Hubby, the day Delilah doesn’t jump for her meal, that will be a sad day for me.
I know just what you mean. It is more worrisome with some dogs than others. When Sheba’s appetite waned, we worried, but not quite as much. She didn’t live to eat like Cricket does, and was always kind of fussy too. Cricket has gotten fussier about treats too, but at least there are other ones she still gets excited about!
They love their meal times.
They certainly do!!
Looks like Cricket can’t wait for her Nom Nom Wow. You better hurry up!
We can’t move fast enough for her! LOL
So glad Cricket is interested in food again. Seeing her smile is great. Hope her cough improves. Tu-Lei sends kisses xx
Thank you! We will keep you posted on how she is coming along. xxoo
Cute post and pictures
Thank you, Crystal!
Both of our boys eat good but Pierre is not a fan of kibble. They hardly ever get kibble unless I accidentally run out of their normal food. It is a tragedy of biblical proportions to Pierre when that happens. LOL!
I can just see Pierre now….”What the heck is this!!??”. 🙂
Always exciting when you see seniors appetite coming back. In this case, I’m sure the Nom Nom Nom piqued her interest. Outstanding!
Agreed my animal friend
It is exciting! And it gives me one less thing to worry about now. 🙂
Cricket sounds just like my boy Buzz before I introduced home cooked and then raw food. He was just bored with eating the same dry food every day. When I think about it, I can’t blame him (or Cricket, lol) – I wouldn’t want to eat the exact same food day in and day out. I’m glad you found a yummy fresh food for your pups!
I know! I can’t even believe now that we ever thought the same dry food day in, day out, was OK. I don’t blame them at all!
We always have non eating dogs around here it seems, but just because that is how they are, not because they are not well. Sounds like good stuff! Enjoy, Cricket!
I’m glad to hear that….maybe I won’t panic now if one of ours doesn’t eat well!
I’ll second that nom nom nom!!!! and I hope the next nomnomnom time is soon ;o)
