Last weekend, when I glanced across the room to see Luke at my hubby’s side watching him intently as he ate some licorice, I had an instant flashback that brought a smile to my face. I had seen that pose and look many times before on our beagle Kobi’s face when he was also watching my hubby eat something he loved, and hoping he would share. Kobi loved red licorice amongst other things (we only share small amounts).
I snapped a photo and then later I had to go looking back through old photographs to see if I could find one with Kobi giving that stare. I found not one, but two, beagles giving that look to my hubby, (you can just see him holding a dish of ice cream).
I think the looks are pretty close, don’t you? (Both photos were taken with cell phones in low light conditions, so please excuse the quality.) At times like that, I still find it difficult to believe that there is no beagle in Luke’s DNA. He’ll always be an honorary beagle to us, whenever he brings back fond memories of our beloved Kobi!
We are joining the Flashback Friday blog hop hosted by Five Sibes and Love is Being Owned by a Husky!
Funny enough, it reminds me of the Lab Death Stare as well. LOL Gotta love a dog that loves food.
I have said all along that I think Luke has hound in him so it could be beagle.
A very familiar look around our house too! Love Dolly
What beautiful memories and beautiful dogs! Love Luke’s “Beagle” stare, too. Very similar poses! I think my Huskies give me that “Beagle” stare when I have pizza or ice cream! Thanks so much for strolling down Memory Lane and joining our Flashback Friday…hope you will share more wonderful memories with us again!
Thank you, and thank you for giving us a place to share our memories, and for coming by. We will definitely join in again!
Maybe if I stare hard enough I will get some, or will it into my mouth. Great pictures. Finally catching up. Miss You!
It usually works, so I guess they know what they’re doing! We missed you too, and we’re glad you’re back!
What a great picture! Looks like the same stare to us!
That is quite the stare! It should get them whatever they want.
Definitely the same stare. Luke is part beagle at heart! Barley’s border collie stare is anything but cute–she’s just a little too intense when she wants me to share 😉
That is such a familiar look to make humans feel guilty not to offer to share. I try to avoid eating food around them that is not good for them, raisins, grapes, macadamia nuts, and give them just small portions but it seems mean not to offer them something.
I know what you’re saying, jan! If I do eat something the dogs can’t have, I have to go get them something that they can have. We love grapes, but now we usually make them into a fruit salad, with lots of other fruits that the dogs can have. 🙂
That is so sweet!! Cocoa will talk to us when she wants something. She vary rarely sits still and quiet 🙂
Hahaha! I recognize that intent stare. Bentley uses it all of the time. I haven’t had any licorice in years, but now I want some too.
Isn’t it amazing how our dogs can give us THAT LOOK and melt our hearts; yet THAT LOOK from our parents put the fear of God into our souls every time?! Lol. ????
LOL…so true! If only we had a look that could make dogs behave better, that would save on a lot of training! 🙂
How funny! Mom eats red licorice all the time. Katie and Bailie both love it too and get a small piece every time Mom as some. Right before reading this post, Katie came marching into our office and stared at Mom because Mom ate the licorice and forgot to give a piece to Katie. It worked and Mom went back to the kitchen to get another piece so Katie could get her share. I don’t like it, but I do stare for other things I find tasty.
Oh yes, that guilt-inducing stare works every time! 😀
Cool photos! Dogs have “that look” and they USE it! LOL!
Thank you! They sure know it works, don’t they? 🙂
That stare works every time
