It wouldn’t feel like late winter/early spring if I didn’t complain about the weather! There’s really not much to complain about lately…it’s been feeling like spring and I love it. We have had some roller coaster weather though, and all I would ask is that Mother Nature would make up her mind as to whether it’s winter or spring. Choose one and stick with it!

I had no sooner written joyfully last week that the yard was finally ice free, when the very next day we got snow, which turned to sleet and freezing rain, and then to rain. Then the temperatures plunged way below freezing and the icy mess was back again! We had to limit outdoor play and I had to get out the new toys I was saving for the new house to provide some extra entertainment for those days. Luckily that only lasted a couple of days before it all melted again.

The yard is clear though muddy in areas (though way better than many years due to so little snow), so other than having some dirty dogs, it’s all been good. The warmer weather has even motivated me to finally get out for more walks. I thought we should get at least a few around the old neighborhood before we move. It’s helped me to not feel so sad about moving, because I do not like the traffic on our road (there are no sidewalks here in the country), which has increased greatly over the years we’ve lived here. The new house is on a dead end dirt road with just a few houses beyond us so I don’t anticipate much traffic there, plus we’ll be able to make our own trails on our 17 acres of land.

We will be without a large fenced yard for some time though, so hopefully the groundhog is right and spring really does come early. The earlier it comes the sooner we can put our fencing in. For now we are making the most of our yard for our last week and the crew has been having a blast! Play time gets extended when it’s warmer, and Cricket especially has been pretty worn out in the evenings! Even Luke has been doing less of his evening whining for extra play time.

I don’t think winter is done with us yet, but we’ll make the most of the warmer weather while we have it!

Our weather is up and down too, and it’s very frustrating. Last Wednesday I wore shorts and yesterday I had to wear long pants. 🙁
Enjoy the good weather as long as it last, doggies, the weather is very unpredictable 😀 Great pictures, made us happy 🙂 Double Pawkiss for the Day 🙂 <3
Fun in the yard, new house with 17 acres that is going to be so much fun
It sure is…we can’t wait!!! 🙂
Spring is so wonderful!!
Spring weather is always a toss up between cool and warm, sometimes several times in the same day. Good to see everyone enjoying a playful romp outdoors.
Great photos, Jan!! Outside time is THE BEST for my girls, too. And even better when the weather is perfect like it has been here this week. I’m even wearing flip-flops in the yard today! Happy to see your sweet Sheba still loving life!! (Good girl, Callie! You’re doing a great job watching over Mommy’s friends’ dogs and your own family!)
Callie really is doing an excellent job!! I wish I could give her a big hug. The dogs got a lot of play time outside this weekend, in between us packing, etc.
Sheba was a little gimpy, but just from the playing. She has a little trouble with the stairs when we let her overdo it. But the new house has very few stairs so that will no longer be an issue…yay!
Wow, your crew will have a blast on your 17 acres!! Looks like Mother Nature made up her mind here in NC and decided that it was time for Spring weather. We’ve been having temps in the 70s all week and I’ve spotted a ton of daffodils while out on my walks!!
I can’t wait to see some daffodils! There are some green things sprouting up at our new house…it’s going to be fun to see what they turn out to be. I hope Mother Nature continues to be cooperative with you.
I’d love to visit NC some day, a friend of mine and I talk about it all the time. We’re big Nascar fans, and winery fans too, which I think you have a few of? Are you near the seacoast or closer to Charlotte?
I’m in between both 😉 We’re in the Sandhills region, which is the area around Fort Bragg (Fayetteville); it’s about 3 hours from both the coast and Charlotte (but only a quick 35 min plane ride from RDU to Charlotte). Please let me know if you’re in the area and I’d be excited to have you over!!
I will definitely do so! There probably won’t be a vacation this year, due to buying a new house, but I’m hoping for something next year!
Fabulous photos. We have had too much mud this year. Our yard is a mess. Good luck with your move!
OMD! SEVENTEEN acres?? That is awesome! I have to share this with you. Every single house that we have looked at to possibly buy is now under water due to the recent flooding! Can you imagine if we had bought a brand new home and it flooded? It looks as if we are going to stay put after all. We are praying our son’s house doesn’t get any of the water. They are saying the flooding is of “Biblical” proportions. Of course, 18 – 20″ is a lot of freakin’ rain!
That IS a lot of rain…I can’t even imagine. Did your son’s house stay dry, I hope?
Nice, fun times enjoying an early spring bonus!
Sure looks like they are having a great time and making the most of their time in the back yard! Good luck with the move!
Looks like they’re all having a great time! We’ve been having the same weather rollercoaster–it was 70 degrees a couple times this week!! I will never complain about that (although Barley certainly did). I just hope that Mother Nature decides to stay semi-Spring-like when I movers taking all of my stuff from one place to the next because I do not want to have that experience in rain or snow.
When we moved back up here to NH in 1990, we had gotten a big snowstorm the night before! However, most of our stuff was already in storage because we lived with my parents for a while at first.
I’m definitely keeping our fingers crossed for both of us…I think right now it looks like it might be cooler but at least clear of snow, and hopefully dry?
The mom says this time of year the weather is so unpredictible. Snow one day…60 degrees the next. It’s nice to see the gang outside enjoying some play time.
We had a beautiful weekend, and wore the dogs right out! But today we got some snow…oh well. It won’t last long anyway!
Goodness it’s almost time for you to move! We are having very mild weather so sorry to hear about that last blast of winter you got. Sounds like you’ll have a fence in before you know it. Good luck! Love Dolly
This weather is crazy! We’ve had tons of rain and thunderstorms here this week and now we’re a mud pit. Not to mention very warm temps and I just don’t trust Mother Nature. I figure she’s got some more snow and ice up her sleeves but is waiting until all the fruit trees are in bloom 😉
Yes, she’s pulled that little trick on us before, hasn’t she? She is definitely not to be trusted, so all we can do is keep our fingers crossed!
Looks like you guys are more than ready
Lily & Edward
Well, at least the end of winter is in sight. Congrats on the new house – how exciting for you!
Thank you! It really is a dream come true and it’s going to be such a great place for the dogs.
Here’s hoping no more snow for you – especially as you are going through your move……and maybe Spring really WILL arrive early like it’s been threatening to do in many places in the country and you can get some fencing up in the new yard for the crew! I know you’re excited………
Hugs, Sammy
We are very excited! We did get a little bit of snow today but it’s supposed to rain overnight so it should all be gone my morning. It may not be quite as warm as it has been, but as long as it stays dry it will all be good for moving!
I love this time when all things awake from long hibernation… and even our pups act like puppies when they spring around in spring :o)
Look at all those happy pups having a fun play time! How fun to see them all together and so happy. They will go wild when their new yard is fenced in!
