In this case, that means winter and all of our wonderful snow, that the K9 Crew was enjoying up until just recently. Warm temperatures all last week started wearing away all of the snow, and by Saturday we were down to this ice skating rink (well, if only it was smooth and level so I could have really gotten my skates out!).
You might have seen our photo on Instagram or Facebook, where I had to say “no” to the sweet faces that wanted to play ball. We can’t risk an injury on all that ice. I had to wear my YakTrax*Β (traction cleats)Β in order to get around the yard cleaning up. On top of everything else, play time had already been slowed down for Luke because he broke a nail last week (which seems to be healing well so far – knock wood).

On the plus side, we got a lot of rain Saturday night and it did start to clear the yard just a little bit. Sunday morning, the Dadz got out there and tried to break up some of the ice so that hopefully it would melt more quickly.
With temperatures not quite as warm, but still warmer the next few days, we will hopefully at least have a strip of bare ground in that part of the yard where we can toss the ball. Snowshoeing is probably over too, but we need to get out in the woods and see how the conditions are out there once we feel safe letting Luke walk on what might be rough ground. A cold day on Sunday seemed to turn most of the snow that was left into a hard crusty surface, but if it’s warm this week it might get better (or worse, who knows?).
These two manage to entertain themselves some anyway. When all else fails, they can watch traffic go by, and bark at it if appropriate.
There’s still a snow mountain to climb.
Luke took the ball up there to chew on, and Cricket went on squirrel watch.
As we always do, we’ll make the best of the changing seasons. We never know, as crazy as the weather has been this winter, there may be another snowstorm before we’re done with it anyway!
I hate when you get that wet ice of Spring. It has been such a strange winter. We are going back to cold temperatures now.
We’re headed back to that cold too. They are now saying this next week will be the coldest of the whole winter! I would have liked to get that out of the way in the beginning, not now. π Well, there’s even talk of a big snowstorm, so the dogs will be happy anyway.
Yes, such crazy weather-but love these pics of the crew getting through it! Even when they are mad, lol!
We’re still waiting to see if we get more snow or not. We had 70 degree weather on Friday and then it snowed (but just a dusting) on Saturday! Such a weird winter. I’m glad Luke and Cricket could still find ways to have fun!
We just have to make the best of things, with such unpredictable weather, don’t we?
No real winter here in NC, except one icy weekend. I’ve already walked dogs in shorts on several occasions…crazy!!!
I was outside with just a t-shirt and jeans for a couple days, that’s pretty crazy for around here in February!
That’s okay…we think Old Man Winter isn’t quite done yet. He’ll be back. π
It’s certainly not like him to just go away quietly. π
I love the pictures of Luke and Cricket begging to play. They have to know how incredibly cute they are … and sure know how to “work” it!
Oh yes, they do, and they play up that cuteness for all it is worth!
Yes now the east is getting our warm weather, but we still haven’t had snow all year. Doesn’t look like we are going to either. Poor dogs to have to stay off the ice I think they wan’t more snow. Love Dolly
The dogs would definitely be happy for more snow. It’s gotten cold here again, but I don’t think it’s supposed to last long. But with the crazy weather we’ve been having, more snow could still come yet!
Your yard looks like our driveway! We hope ours melts soon.
We simply did not have a winter this year. It barely got to freezing a few days and now all of the flowers are blooming!
At this point, I’ve given up on more snow, and I’m ready for flowers too!
My goodness, if we had that much snow we would still be closed!
I cannot get over all of the snow you have! We are cold again but still no snow. Tomorrow and Wednesday we are supposed to be in the 50s! Crazy!!
No way. Ice is dangerous but that snow is a blast!
Snorts,
Lily & Edward
Such an odd weather year everywhere. Looks like the snow mountain will last a while though.
I have a feeling no matter how warm it gets, that mountain is going to be here for a while! The sun doesn’t hit that area at all.
Our snow was gone and then we got ice and then a little snow on top of it and that melted and now we have a ice skating ring again. I want warm weather to stick around.
The warm weather might as well stick around at this point, everyone has pretty much given up on any more winter, and the ice is useless!
15 mins south of us they got a foot of snow Friday. We got a dusting. Bailie and Madison went to WI for NW trials on Saturday where they had gotten about 6″ of snow. The two of them enjoyed a few romps around in the white stuff. We are pretty much giving up hope for snow around here until next winter. Your big pile looks like so much fun!
Our winter weather came back today, and we got a fresh inch of snow, but that was it. It’s only supposed to stay cold through the weekend, and no more snow is predicted. I think you are right – snow is most likely pretty much done for this year. π
Poor Luke! Glad the nail is healing!! I know how my girls get when they can’t play outside. Oy!
When Shadow broke her nail, I soaked it in Epsom salts & water, patted it dry, and then covered it with a baby sock. And for outside, I covered the sock with a Pawz boot. But that was during the summer. With ice on the ground, she’d have been on a leash.
With Luke’s quirks, one of which is “you’re not touching my paws”, it was pretty challenging! After talking to the vet, we decided to just leave it and keep an eye on it. I wish he would have let me put something on it, but nothing doing. If it didn’t continue to heal after a couple days, I had already decided he would only go out on the leash, but luckily it didn’t come to that.
to play ice ball is probably a little dangerous… that’s the weather for the mama, she probably would smash her other hell-bow too :o) butt we dogs know to have fun even on icy ground right? if life gives you icy ground we make ice cream :O)
With 4 paw drive, the ice is a little easier for you guys, but injuries can still happen! The humans are definitely better off to just stay off it completely though….as your mama knows too well! π
