The dogs got 6 new toys for Christmas. The score as of today is:
DOGS – 4
TOYS – 2
Here are the toys that have expired, in order of expiration, and what they each cost:
Dura Squeak ball – $2.69
goDog Dinosaur – $13.62
Cheap rope ball from discount store (next time I’ll plan ahead better and get Damien’s Best): $2.99

Tuffy Jr. Sheep – $16.99 (Is anyone else amazed by the amount of stuffing they can cram into these toys? It just keeps coming out!)
And the survivors are both of the West Paw Design toys, A Hurley and a Jive ball, total paid $13.

Total spent: Almost $50.00
The joy of watching our dogs have endless fun with these toys:
PRICELESS!

Don’t get me started on the durability of dog toys BOL
I had to laugh when I saw the sheep – I thought “that sheep doesn’t stand a chance!”
I know you can relate!! The sheep seemed so tough…I thought he might make it! BOL
Whenever my pal, Jack, asks me, “Must you tear up every toy I get get for you” ?,,,,I tell him,,,,”Hey,,,,,,you do want me to enjoy the toy, don’t you” ?”
It took the humans here a long time to understand that the joy is in the destruction!
Oh that’s hilarious hahhaaahha bless em..it isn’t Christmas unless something gets de stuffed 🙂 loves Fozziemum xxx
Ha ha, so true, Bev!! xxoo
We are always afraid that after they destroy the toys, our dogs will eat them. lol
You have good reason to fear that. I usually have to take them away from Sheba because she is eating them!
Thanks for the run down on how long the last! I was actually thinking about getting one of those sheep, but didn’t quite have the money for it! That much stuffing? Really? Now I’m curious!
The sheep was one of the cheaper ones in that line too. It really seemed well made and I thought it would last. That sheep is not real big, but they just kept pulling stuffing out of it! Next time I’ll take photo of the pile of stuffing next to the toy….LOL.
Oh, totally priceless seeing them have so much fun. When our Abby used to destroy toys like crazy, I’d buy her 2 extremes – kids’ used stuffies at garage sales for 25c that she could destroy with glee and the crazy expensive TUFF toys – that she still destroyed but at least it took a bit longer!
I really should go to the thrift store and see what I can find for toys, and just let them have at it. The sheep lasted longer, but I really think that’s only because they were ignoring it while they worked on destroying the rest!
I also get so much joy seeing my dogs have fun.
They really are entertaining and so much fun to watch.
Definitely the right attitude to have about toys – they’re to be enjoyed (hopefully for more than 10 minutes).
It would be nice if they lasted longer, but we’ll take what we can get! And I’ll keep looking for that one stuffed toy that lasts longer…..
Ah yes, don’t you love it when these “Tuff” toys are torn apart in a matter of minutes? Lots of stuffing, but no “tuffness”! LOL I agree that giving pups new toys is such fun and always worth the anticipation and excitement! 😀
I really should hire Sheba out as their tester before they’re allowed to claim that their toy is “tuff”. LOL
Well, they sure enjoyed their toys! Money well spent. 🙂
Christmas only comes once a year, right, so we have to make the best of it! 🙂
Im surprised with the Tuffy! Our Gator is still holding up, put it is an 8 on the scale and pretty big. Not at all surprised for West Paw, we LOVE them!
West Paw is the best….tough, made in USA, recycled materials. I always feel good about buying them.
I might have to look at that scale and try a higher number. I went with one that was a bit less expensive but that didn’t work out so great! Oh, and it must have been your site where I read about that brand and decided to try it!
LOL! Fun times for the dogs, not so much for the toys (or the pocketbook!)
Toby had one of those Hurleys once, but it just disappeared one day. Never did find out where it went, but it was one of the few toys that withstood his Labrador jaws of death.
He knew he couldn’t destroy it so he probably buried it somewhere….LOL.
Love that last photo of Cricket supervising the toy unwrapping…so cute.
No way was she taking her eyes off of that ball!
Our pups have a toy chest filled with mainly antlers, some tennis balls, a rope toy they’ve had since they were tiny puppies (3 + years!) and a few squeaky toys. We’ve given up on stuffed toys since they never lasted long…
When will I be smart enough to give up on the stuffed toys? LOL
Tennis balls don’t make it around here, and rope toys get pulled apart. Damien’s Best last pretty long for rope toys though, and they’re also made in the USA (Vermont).
BOL at the stuffing comment… those West Paw Design toys sure are good ones! Shiner got one for Christmas 2013 and it’s still very much alive.
Some of the West Paw Zogoflex haven’t made it around here, but the Hurley, Tux, and the balls all hold up.
I don’t know if I can entirely blame Honey from going through stuffies so quickly. I suspect my husband playing tug with her using them is at least partially to blame. 🙂
One of Honey’s favorite toys was a large stuffed sheep I found at the Salvation Army for $2. Because it didn’t have any large appendages, it was hard for her to get her mouth around it to pull it apart. It’s now on stuffie palliative care. But it did last over a year and it made her very happy.
Don’t forget, your pups would be just as happy with a ball tied into the leg of an old pair of jeans and you’d probably save a bundle.
You are so right, Pamela. Since I’m always cleaning old clothes out I really need to get creative that way.
You’re right about the appendages, the less there are of those, the longer something will hold up. That’s why balls are the longest lasting around here (except tennis balls which can be easily broken in half).
It’s hard not to get dog toys … some of them are just too cute. Woofs to West Paw toys. Sugar got the same toy and she loves it. Priceless Enjoyment! Golden Woofs
If not for West Paw, our toy box would be pretty empty. 🙂
My pug Jaxon is hard on toys. He has already destroyed 4 toys from christmas and his new bed. Olivia my other pug is not hard on the toys but she did join Jaxon in tearing up her bed too. well they ate a whole in the cover to get to the stuffing. Jaxon going insane over any stuffed toy and goes straight into it with the intent on gutting it. Rope toys he just wants to eat the fringe and pull it apart to eat the rest of the rope. So far the only toys that are lasting are from the Honest Pet Company the Eco Tugger and snake (ok the snakes eyes were gone day one) oh we still have the ECO Duck too but it is now Legless and I have been hiding it from jaxon since it is stuffed. Hyper Pet Stuffless Raccoon and another stuffless but I cant remember who made it. it is the longest living toy ever olivia has had it since I brought her home in june. The Kong Classic and wobbler are both still intact too but Jaxon has ripped the ear and tail off of Olivia’s Kong Cozie Spunky the Monkey and poor spunky does not look at that spunky anymore.
The one thing I can happily say Luke never did was chew up his beds. Sheba did when she was younger but luckily outgrew that. Toys are a whole different story though.
I might have to look for those Eco toys or Hyper Pet. I don’t give up, or I’m just foolish with my money I’m not sure which. LOL I just worry about them getting the squeakers, so once there’s a hole in something I dig the squeaker out and then let them “finish it off”. We do have some kong toys that have held up too. Honestly? They only really love the toys they can destroy!
Hahaha wowee! My Christmas toys are still going strong, but a Santa head did get separated from its body. I imagine if I had doggie siblings it would be a different story!
I’m sure having a little competition ups the ante. LOL
I miss the puppy days when my dogs enjoyed destroying anything in sight. I thought I would look forward to maturity, but I really miss the puppyness.
Perhaps you should add a golden retriever to your crew….Sheba is the one that does most of our destruction and she is 10 years old!
Boy, those guys are hard on toys. And where does all that stuffing go?
It just seems to come out of there endlessly!
Even know it isn’t cheap you are right the joy is priceless. I thought the tuffy toy would last a little longer. This post was fun.
Thanks! I did at least hope that some of the new toys I was trying would last longer, and I really thought that sheep would….but I should have known better. LOL
This is so funny and I can relate! Mauja and Atka shred their new toys in record time.
I’m so glad it’s not just my crew that does this!
**cough couch** a DBDT rope wouldn’t have torn like that! 😉 hahaha!!!
(as you said)
At least they had a ton of fun with everything! Some of our stuff already got torn apart as well, but it is fun watching them!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
LOL…I know, poor planning on my part. I planned on getting some DBDT toys but got behind on my Xmas shopping! I picked up that other one when I was doing last minute shopping. I knew it wouldn’t last!
I am shocked that the goDog toys did not last that long! Good grief. Well, I can guess that the dogs had a great time killing each of those toys…and isn’t that what giving is all about? Bringing joy to others?
Oz
You are so right, Oz, even when that joy doesn’t last very long! Christmas day was so fun though, watching them run around with the different toys. Most of them lasted at least a couple of days!
Mom agrees with you! Dad gets so upset every time she brings home toys for me to destroy. But seeing how excited I get with a new toy and how much fun I have destroying it, is well priceless! Lucky dog Luke! Love Dolly
The only time I’m less happy is with the more expensive ones, when I think it’s going to be the one that actually holds up to them. Then it doesn’t, and I’m bummed out. But again, as long as they’re having fun!
We don’t spend a lot on toys since only Bailie plays with them and she has a whole load of them already, but Mom does get frustrated when she buys a new one and it gets wrecked right away!
I know what you mean, and sometimes I just can’t help myself! Sheba does play with them too though, and Cricket occasionally. Sheba is actually the really destructive one! She usually starts it and then Luke finishes it.
