I’m not one who is big on anniversaries, especially sad ones, but today is the one year anniversary of our beagle Kobi’s passing, and I’ve been thinking about him a lot lately. I thought I would just share a few photos and one special note someone sent me just before Kobi passed on.
First, Kobi’s younger years:
He enjoyed boating, hiking with his sister Maggie, and hanging out at our camp.
Later in life he enjoyed helping me with treat reviews for the blog, meandering walks, and napping.
Just a couple of days before Kobi died, I received a message from our nephew. This nephew and his family were Kobi’s original family. It was a tough decision for them to have Kobi come live with us, but with a busy family of four young boys, they did what they thought would be good for Kobi, and I believe it all turned out for the best. Here is what he wrote to me when he found out Kobi was dying:
“Aunt Jan – I just wanted to message you and thank you for giving Kobi such a wonderful life. He was my first and only dog, and knowing that he lived his life with you and Uncle Tom and all of his brothers and sisters makes me feel incredibly blessed. I was very sad when I was little, letting him go was very hard for me. But knowing what I know now and reading your updates about him over the years really has made me feel like he was the luckiest dog in the world and thank you again for everything.”
I treasure those words just as much as I treasure every sweet memory of our lives with Kobi.

Thank you, Cathy. It was a mutually beneficial relationship for all of us….he was the best. 🙂
Oh, Jan. What a beautiful tribute to sweet Kobi, who we all got to know through your wonderful stories. Sending hugs.
Thank you so much, Maggie. I’m so glad I started the blog at a time so that so many did get to know Kobi. It’s great for me to have him live on in other’s memories as well as ours.
I miss Kobi too. I felt like I knew him personally through your blog. 🙂
That is SO sweet of you to say….thank you. 🙂
Oh boy what a nice letter your nephew wrote. so sorry for your loss, it doesn’t get easier in time it just gets different.
I think you hit the nail on the head with that.
What wonderful memories you have of Kobi. And your nephew’s note is touching. Kobi had a fantastic family…and extended family.
He had a lot of people that loved him!
Kobi was certainly a lucky dog to have been loved by you. This was a most beautiful post. Sending you gentle, comforting (((hugs)))
Thank you so much, Caren. We were lucky to have his love too. <3

Thank you, Lynn! He was definitely a special boy!
What a beautiful boy he was – treasured memories and always in our hearts – these babies never really leave xx
They don’t, do they? Thank you.
What great memories you have of Kobi. Purrs to you as you remember your sweet boy today.
Thank you!
Aw, what a sweet note, and a lovely post. I had a really hard time with Abby’s one-year anniversary. Thought I’d be okay leading up to that day, but the day hit me hard. Hope you are getting through today okay with fond memories of your lovely furry little Valentine. Love never dies!
I usually don’t let anniversaries bother me, but this one was tough. I suppose everything going on with Sheba hasn’t helped….things can kind of pile up! I asked Kobi to send down some healing for Sheba, as I know he’s watching over us. 🙂
Jan what a lovely note, thanks so much for sharing the pictures of Kobi since we didn’t get to know him very well. It is so sad that he’s gone but you have such wonderful memories and pictures to remember him by.
Thank you, Dolly. I am so glad I have all of those photos, and I’m glad that you enjoyed seeing them too.
What a beautiful pup Kobi was. I know exactly how you feel. You did give him a wonderful life, that’s obvious from the pictures – he was a happy pup. Sending you hugs and Havachon puppy kisses on this bittersweet day.
Thank you so much, Daisy. Hugs and kisses are always a big help, as well as your very nice words.
As I try to get rid of the lump in my throat, I’m sending you virtual hugs. RIP sweet Kobi! Go play with my Kissy.
Thank you so much! I bet Kobi and Kissy are having some fun right now! 🙂
What a lovely acknowledgement and gift from your nephew. I’m sure Kobi was glad he found you.
Sending you a hug right now, I know how hard it is.
Thank you, Jodi, that helps more than you can know.
the letter was written so wonderful, your nephew found the best words.
such days are special and I will remember your wonderful pup Kobi together with you.

Thank you, Easy. It helps so much to know that others are thinking of him as well.
Aw wow, I had forgotten that it’s been one year since Kobi 🙁
That message from your niece was just beautiful….heart wrenching, but beautiful. You are a fantastic paw-rent and I know you gave sweet Kobi an amazing life xoxox

Thank you so much, Jenna. I like to think that he did have an amazing life, and I think he was a happy guy (even though he was our more serious boy!).
I absolutely agree with your nephew’s letter–it sounds like Kobi was the luckiest dog in the world to have you! He was such a handsome boy. Thinking of you and sending love your way today!
Thank you, Beth. We were all lucky to have each other. He was such a great dog and certainly set the bar high for the ones following him!
It’s hard to believe it’s been a year. They leave a lot of wonderful memories and take a piece of our heart with them and I believe leave a piece of theirs behind with us.
You are so right, Karen.
So sorry. He was beautiful and I am sure he was happy and loved.
Thank you so much, Jim. He certainly was happy and loved!
Mom remembers the anniversary of Trine’s passing too and it always makes her sad. In some ways it seems like Kobi passed a very long time ago, but we think it is because of Luke growing up so much in such a short time. Talk about Kobi to the other pups today, snuggle together and celebrate the life he had.
That’s exactly what we did, Emma! We even had Luke wearing a new red sweatshirt….red was Kobi’s color so Luke was honoring him. 🙂
Big hugs darlin’ ..these times are always marked with bittersweet memories..what a gorgeous boy Kobi was and I am sure he watches the fun at your house from a sunnier and happier place..loves Bev xxx
Thank you, Bev. I am sure you are right! He had a good life and that’s what I try to focus on. xxoo
