A little about Anne:
- I like to call her “Miss Anne”.
- She is one of my favorites. I’m not sure why, she won’t let me pick her up or even pat her; I think it’s simply because she’s so pretty.
- Anne is from our second group of chickens, she will be two years old this spring.
- She’s often seen off by herself, so seems to be a bit independent.
- Miss Anne’s breed is Araucana, and her comb is what’s called a “rose comb”, you can see how it’s kind of flat and wide instead of tall like some of the other birds.
- All of our Araucanas have green legs, and many have orange eyes like hers (including our rooster Charlie). The green legs led to her name, which is really “Anne of Green Legs” (a reference to the book “Anne of Green Gables“).
- Speaking of Charlie, Anne is one hen I have yet to see him mate with.
- Miss Anne lays cream colored eggs, which are kind of long and pointed at both ends!
- She is not a bird that’s seen hanging out in the nesting boxes much, which leads me to believe she is probably not a candidate to be a “broody” and hatch eggs for us. I believe that hens can be broody even if they are not mating (they can go broody even if you don’t have a rooster, they just don’t know they can’t actually hatch anything!), so it is still possible.
- Wouldn’t she and Charlie make beautiful babies together? I’ll have to have a talk with her. π

She is so pretty!
We hope so – you never know! π
Wow! She is a beauty. I love her breast feathers.

She probably thought I was holding some kind of treat and got mad when it was just the camera! LOL
What a beauty! Nice to meet you Miss Anne.
Likewise! π
Pretty gir!
I am so glad to meet you, Miss Anne! You are a true beauty.
Thank you!!!
What a lovely and independent girl Miss Anne is!
She’s a special one! β₯
Miss Anne, you are really a wonderful looking gal!
Why, thank you, Brian!
Love, Anne
To me your chicken looks rather intelligent!!! he-he Have a nice day & stay healthy… your chickens too111
I think they are smarter than we give them credit for! π
Anne is beautiful! Being as independent as she is, is probably why Charlie hasn’t tried anything with her.
I think you are right about that!!
You are a very pretty chicken, Miss Anne, and you look like you know your own mind and won’t allow yourself to be pushed!
That’s for sure!! π
If that’s not a Wonder Chicken Woman power pose, I don’t know what is! Miss Anne is definitely an independent lady!
She definitely likes to do her own thing. I haven’t seen her in a nesting box lately either, she seems to have spells where she just doesn’t feel like laying eggs too. LOL!
What a delightful post. I smiles through it all. Anne is a very beautiful bird.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. Smooches to Luke. β₯
We are so glad you enjoyed it!

Nothing wrong with an independent, woman chicken who seems to support girl power! Very pretty too.
She is smart and pretty! π
we have a friend named Anne and we imagined her with every sentence… so great to meet ya Anne!!!
π
Miss Anne is indeed a pretty lady. My MIL used to keep 100+ hens for laying. There were 4 or 5 that seemed to be permanently broody, so any eggs that she wanted hatching were popped under them.
We’re so excited to see how it goes this spring, letting our girls hatch their own chicks will be so much fun!
