As I am in beautiful, hot and sunny Myrtle Beach for the BlogPaws pet blogger conference, it’s easy to know exactly what I’m thankful for. Not only BlogPaws for this great opportunity, and my great friend Sheryl for accompanying me and doing the majority of the driving, but for my hubby – The Dadz – for being willing to “hold down the farm” and take care of the crew so I could come.
We drove through a lot of rain on our first day of travel but by the end of it we were in sunshine and it was much warmer. We left behind temperatures in the 40’s and rainy at home and that dreary weather lingered there until it finally broke on Tuesday. We even saw photos on Facebook from my sister showing snow on the ground! I’m pretty sure if I had seen that in person at home, it would have pushed me over the emotional edge I’ve been teetering on since finding out both my hubby and I will be losing our jobs at the end of the summer.
The Dadz had to put up with all that nasty weather while taking care of one cat, two dogs, and 12 growing chickens. It’s a lot, I know, because when I’m home I do a lot of that care since he works more hours than I do (luckily he was able to take a couple extra days off while I’m gone).
I took some photos before I left of the things he’ll be handling while I’m vacationing and “conferencing”.

Samantha’s job as Mother Hen is now over, so she can go back to hanging out in her sunny window.
That’s because the Dadz sent me this photo this week, and the chicks have moved out to their coop! I’m thankful for that too, it will make life easier when I get home.
Thank you to Brian’s Home for hosting the Thankful Thursday blog hop. Please visit other blogs through the links below.
And the grass is nice and green. I bet you are happy to have the chicks outside.
I couldn’t believe how much greener everything was when I got home! Yes, it is great to have the chicks outside, they seem much happier out there with more space too.
What a great hubby you have!
I am so lucky!!
How did you find things when you got home? I’ve got a GRRRRRR in me. LOL
Uh-oh, oh no! Fill me in when you have time. All was good here when I got home!
Yeah the chickens flew the house and are in their coop, they grow so fast!
They grew so much in the time I was gone to BlogPaws! They are fully feathered now, and even seem to be fine with the cooler temps we are having again.
Samantha did a great job with the chickens. Our Grandpa used to raise chickens, he decided they were too much work and gave them to his cousin. He still has his goats, Grandma’s Cats and 2 dogs to take care of.
That Dadz is kinda the best-you are lucky, and great to let him know! Ah, poor Sam losing her chicks, but cool they are grown enough to leave the house-I do notice the difference in their feathers, looks like they are all there, ha-ha, where it didn’t really when I last saw them.
Everything was great when I got home, so he definitely did a super job! The chicks have of course grown a lot while I was gone, and they are fully feathered now!
Can’t wait to finally meet you….
We know the Dadz will have everything under control! The Dad will see you soon, he’s there. Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
Aw. The chicks are in the awkward-looking stage, which makes the strangely cute 🙂 I’m sorry Sam lost her mothering duties, though!
I know, we are going to have to find Sam another job! 🙂 I can’t believe how much the chicks grew while I was gone…they are no longer awkward looking (I’ll share photos later this week).
I know that you are having a great time at the conference! You will be ready for some cooler temps when you get home. Wow! Your chickens are getting big!
Have a great time!
It’s pawsome you have a Dadz to help out with the pets while you are traveling. It’s a mix of rain/snow here today so enjoy the conference and the beauty weather. Safe travels.
Make that beach weather. Grr, auto correct got me again. ????
Stop making us jealous

Aww what a great Dadz! The chicks look very happy in their new home. 🙂 Our temps went from very chilly low 60s up to over 90 yesterday and we’re heading to even hotter temps today. I hate hot weather, so this was not a welcome change, especially not so quickly! And I’m hearing that we’re going back into the 60s this weekend – a relief for sure, but 30 degree jumps from one day to the next aren’t normal! Have fun on your trip!
The ups and downs in the temps are so crazy! They had a couple hot days while I was gone, but when I got home it was pretty much exactly as it was when I left, rainy and only a few degrees warmer (50’s)!
That kind of weather would have sent ME over the edge even if hubby and I weren’t both facing the loss of our jobs! It’s May for criminy sakes! It’s supposed to be sunny and warm, even in New England! Oh well, at least you and “Auntie” Sheryl were able to escape. I know you’ll both be glad you came to hot, sunny South Carolina for your mini vacation.
I’m glad for your sake that The Dadz is willing to take over at home for you! Mine is willing – he’s just not able because of his arthritis. I’d probably have to have the pet sitter check on them all at least once a day!
Say Hi! To everyone for me!!!!
We could not have asked for better weather down there! It was 80’s and sunny on almost every day. But when I got home….rainy and in the 50’s again! But the last couple of days have been a bit warmer and at least partly sunny.
It’s always a relief when the chicks ‘graduate’! I hope you’re having a wonderful time at blog paws! I hope to make it there one year.
It is so nice to have them out in the coop! It definitely makes things easier, and I’m happy they can enjoy some fresh air in their little yard now too (when they’re brave enough to venture out).
You’re lucky to have someone to watch things so you can be at BlogPaws. We know you will be happy you went.
I am definitely happy I went. It was a long time to be away from home though, and I couldn’t have done it if anyone but my hubby could be home with the crew.
I’m sure your dadz will be a fabulous farm-keeper while you are a way… and I’m sure the furkids and the dadz will have a bll… or two :o)
