This week’s #52Snapshots of Life theme is “Flag“. We missed Flag Day by a bit, but we still had our flag flying here!
I had a little fun with the editing on this one. I liked the original photo, but I wanted to highlight the subjects a little more and I thought the background was a little distracting. First of all I used Photoshop to crop the photo, and then added an effect called “desaturate green”. That was as far as I could get with that program, so I opened up the modified photo in Picmonkey where I added an effect called “burst” but faded the effect out quite a bit so it only added some subtle highlights. I loved the serious expression on Luke’s face so just had to add those words.
If you’re interested, here’s the original photo. Which do you like best?

Go Luke – I’m proud also!
I love the doctored photo! You should participate in the Caturday Art Blog Hop.
Thank you, I might have to give that a try!
I think the colors definitely stand out in the first one and it has fewer visual distractions.
your photos are great! and I love how you look Luke, you are such a smart pup, you egg-sactly know how to look best for flag day.
Thank you! Luke is getting better and better at posing….though it does take quite a few shots to get one good one (thank god for digital cameras right?).
You know I can’t make a decision, ha-ha-so they are both great! Seriously, each in their own way are wonderful. I think as a few people mentioned the different things focused on in each, could depend which theme you liked best-I think the first one definitely ends up highlighting the awesome patriotic Flag theme, whereas the original highlights Luke a little more-but of course you still pick up on the Flag pieces. Great job on the editing for sure though, Jan!
Thanks, Lynn! I guess I accomplished just what I wanted to then, and the process was fun as well!
What a nice picture!
beautiful!!! I love the edited one a lot
Both pictures are interesting, but I think the original is brighter and a bit happier.
I think you are right. The edited photo definitely has a more somber mood to it.
Hi Y’all!
I hope my Human learns something from what you did. She still doesn’t edit her photos or pose her subjects.
Did you follow me to http://www.browndogcbr.net? There is a link on http://browndogcbr.blogspot.com .
Hope, if you haven’t already, y’all will come to my new home. I’m still workin’ on it. I’ll be tryin’ a different format tomorrow. We need your input.
Y’all hurry on by now!

Well, posing isn’t all that easy, sometimes candid is better. Editing isn’t easy either, all of the programs are different and it takes time to figure things out.
We did find our way to your blog, thank goodness, we’ll head back over again to see the new format though.
Nice photo!
Regal Luke! Rob’s been playing with “color splash” too. Last week I posted a picture he made of Mia with purple flowers. I didn’t realize how beautiful she’d look in black and white!
I saw that photo and loved it! I think it can be surprising how much black and white can enhance a subject.
You did a great job with the editing. I do like the edited one the best!
Looks pretty cool
Lily & Edward
I like the first one the most, too. It looks very modern! Gorgeous dog, btw! 🙂
Thank you!!
Cool matching bandana!
Great photography! I love what you did to it. *Awesome hostas too ☺
I love hostas because they will grow anywhere and they are the one plant I can’t kill! Unfortunately, the deer love them too, so they don’t always look that good all summer. So far they haven’t found them this year though.
I LOVE the edited version! Quite the eye-catcher!
Fab photo!
Wow, you did an amazing job editing this photo!!! I love the parts you highlighted, and this is one of my favorite photos of Luke too!!
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
You did a great editing job. I love it.
You inspire me, Mary! 🙂
Interesting effects. But the color shot does show the details of Luke’s face a little more because of the contrast. I guess I’m not patriotic enough because I vote for the puppy face every time over the flag. 🙂
I think it’s the American way to love dogs. 🙂
Love the photo!
Luke you look so patriotic and handsome! Love Dolly
I love the first one especially how the color of his eye pops.
I think I like the first one, it makes it very serious.
