Last Saturday my hubby and I went shopping. It was a beautiful day and we wanted something at the local farmer’s market. I had been trying to find local honey to help Kobi’s allergies, and was told this was where I could find it.
The farm also had some treats that looked yummy for the dogs, so I had to get some of those. I always love to have local homemade treats, since I don’t always have time to make my own. They were a hit of course, and Sheba had to carry hers around for a few minutes.
I also bought myself a homemade blueberry muffin, since I was hungry and we had more shopping to do; more shopping for the dogs that is. Our next stop was a few towns over to the furniture store. Yes, we were buying furniture for our dogs; a couch, as a matter of fact. What, doesn’t everyone buy a couch for their dogs? I think Jessica at You Did What With Your Weiner just did also! OK, she may not have bought it for her dogs, but it had to be approved by her dogs.
I also might be exaggerating just a bit…..the couch was just as much for hubby and I, because we were tired of trying to keep the old couch clean and clear of dog and cat fur. Here’s some sage advice: if you have furry pets, a dark blue couch might be a bad idea.
It’s pretty though, right? Can you see the fur on it? We had this couch before we had more than one or two dogs and cats. We usually had throw blankets or covers on it.

That couch has been moved around the house a lot…it was originally in our sitting loft, but with remodeling and switching rooms around, it ultimately ended up in my office. It quickly became the favorite place for the dogs to hang out. The cover and throw blankets got very worn out, so a few weeks ago I bought a new throw blanket for it.
Not so bad, right? Until Cricket thought it needed to look more like this:

After a couple weeks of fixing that cover daily (more like several times daily), and knowing fur was going to get stuck everywhere and be impossible to clean, I told hubby that I thought a new couch might be in order. We had traded in our microfiber couch in our living room for a leather one, and it was the best thing we ever did. It is SO easy to keep clean. We really couldn’t afford another leather couch though, but hubby had found this bonded leather (some kind of leather mixture) couch at a tent sale, so we decided to go get it.
It was a nightmare getting it into the room, but that’s another story. We love it, and so do the dogs, the two girls anyway. (Kobi doesn’t really jump up on couches anymore, he prefers his dog beds on the floor).

The best news is that Dad can take a nap there, or I can sit there and read, without the fear of being covered with dog fur when we get up. I guess the couch really was for all of us!!
Many thanks to 2 Brown Dawgs Blog for hosting the This ‘N That Thursday blog hop!
Love the couch and the color combination is absolutely wonderful. it’s pretty easy to clean.
Cricket looks so happy to have rumpled it up! 😀
Donna is not allowed on the light grey fabric couch. We got it before we got a dog. We’ve got these plastic spike mats they sell for cats that we lay on the couch… then we get too lazy to remove to sit on it ourselves so nobody sits on the couch at all much. Silly isn’t it? 😛
Donna likes honey but coughs after having a teaspoon of it every time. It was always strange to me because I thought it was suppose to help sooth her throat!
Have a good day Janet 🙂
I think the whole rumpling thing is just a fun game to her!
That is pretty funny about your couches….it sounds just like something we would do (if our house was bigger we might have tried that)!
Kobi didn’t seem to like the honey when I just let him lick some off a spoon to try it. I’m going to try mixing it with something, maybe yogurt, and see if he’ll take it that way. It does seem strange that Donna coughs after having it.
Thank you, you have a good day too, and thanks for coming by!
Love your new couch! Like Jodi, we have two – one for us and one for the dogs 🙂
Thank you, Sue. That must work great to have two couches, especially if you have company. I used to kind of cringe when company came over if I hadn’t gotten a chance to clean the fur off the couch!
Nice couch! We try to cover some of ours, but Tavish likes to rearrange the covers too! 😉
Thanks! It’s funny that Cricket is the only one of the three dogs that does that though. The other two will just lay down!
What a great new sofa! We had a leather-coated one once too, and it was really easy to keep clean. Enjoy!
P.S. the farmers market sounded great too, and I am now in the mood for a blueberry muffin! 🙂
Thanks, Donna! Mmmm…nothing like a homemade blueberry muffin! We planted our own blueberry bushes and hope to have enough someday to actually bake with!
Very pretty couch. Love the pictures. Our dogs do that to the bed. I make it and they unmake it to get comfortable.
Thanks, K! When we go to bed at night, I throw an old sheet over the bed to keep it cleaner. First thing Cricket does is re-arrange it so she doesn’t have to lay on it! Another losing battle. LOL
No good me having a new couch, I’m not allowed on the old one..BOL.. We love visiting farm shops 🙂 Have a great weekend xx0xx
Mollie and Alfie
Farm shops are fun, aren’t they? I love all the homegrown and homemade products.
I bet you have some nice dog and cat beds though!
The old couch looks much more comfortable, but I bet the fur was a problem. This is why we aren’t allowed on the furniture. Mom spends lots of time with us on the floor snuggling, that way the couch stays fairly furless. The new one does look nice, though.
That old couch was broken in well, and it was comfortable (though hubby said the arm was hard when he tried to nap there). We moved it downstairs so it will still be available for company to sleep on.
I think not letting the dogs on the furniture is the only sure fire way to keep it looking good! But we kind of gave up on that a long time ago. As long as you are getting your cuddles, that’s what’s important! 🙂
Love the couch – really love the color! The beagle on top really adds to it! (I love red with a beagle. And what is it about beagles that they lay up on the back of the couch? Our beagle did that too!)
I’m not sure leather would work with Rita. Her nails seem to stay sharp, no matter what. I worry she’d scratch it. We had a chenille-sorta sofa at our old house which was awful. The weave was so loose that the hairs really got embedded in it. Now we have a steely blue microfiber sofa and I really love it. Rita stays on her end w/ her blankie, but even when she doesn’t, it’s pretty easy to clean the hair off.
Thanks, Jackie, Cricket really does add to the décor, doesn’t she? 🙂
We do worry about scratches but so far haven’t had any. Microfiber is good too, if you get the right color (red was a bad choice for us), it is easier to clean the fur off. Our problem with it was that our Golden Moses used to drool a lot…..you could tell where he laid on the couch because there was a constant drool stain there. Never could figure out what to use to clean off dog drool!
We have two couches. One is specifically for the dogs. I do try and cover it but Sampson is like your little gal and likes to crumple it up. BTW that is a great cover, where did you get it?
Do you worry about sharp little paws scratching or tearing the leather? That would be my concern.
We do worry about scratches or tears in the leather, but so far we haven’t had any.
I got that cover at shopforshelters.com. It’s made by Surefit though and you can probably also get it directly from there. Recently I saw the same thing, only it had stretchy straps on it to hold it in place, which would be way better (though may not look as nice)! I can’t remember where I saw it though….at the time I was thinking I needed to get that one instead, but then decided to just get the new couch!
I’ve had only leather couches for years now…they really are the lowest maintenance …I’ve never found a slipcover, spread, throw or what have you that the dogs would leave on the furniture…they always end up in a crumpled heap…Leather is the way to go
I didn’t really used to be a fan of leather. I thought it would be cold in the Winter. Which it is. But if I’m going to lay on the couch when it’s chilly, I just put a blanket underneath me. I can’t imagine we’ll ever get anything else again. I wonder if they make leather dog and cat beds? LOL
LOVE the new couch! Will it be ok with sharp claws?
Thanks, Caren! We think it will, our other couch has been fine so far, but we’ve only had it a couple months. So we can’t be sure. I suppose nothing is ever perfect, right?
Thanks so much for participating in TNT! LOL we used to have a navy couch. We got it 2 days before we got our Golden Retriever. Bad bad idea! That golden hair used to wheedle its way into that couch. Our Golden lived until 13 and all those years we had that couch…lol. Chessie hair is much easier to get off and we have new couch. Your new couch is very nice!
Thank you! It always amazes me how the fur can weave it’s way right through the fabric, drives me nuts when trying to clean! I’m really not sure if it’s the Golden or the Beagle fur which is worse. Or maybe the cats! The cat beds get pretty bad too.
Fortunately Shiner has some really short furs. But she still sheds them and they are very spiky and itchy and they get stuck in your clothes. The new couch looks nice and it looks like the dogs enjoy it too 🙂
The dogs do like it, but I don’t think they really care what it looks like. Actually though, I think Cricket is happier without any blankets to have to push out of her way!
Those short furs can be just as bad as the long ones I think!
Pretty much all of our furniture is earthtones of Poodles and dog fur. Leather might be a good idea for a change.
Actually, we just kind of get used to the fur for the most part, don’t we? Leather’s been great for us so far!
Aw, c’mon…a little fur won’t hurt you. 😉
Actually, that’s a pretty cool couch! And it looks pretty comfy too!
Thanks! A little fur we could take, but with three dogs and two cats, it’s ALOT of fur! 🙂
We purchased a couch about 5 years ago, and I sorely regret the one we chose…The couch we chose was a neutral color, which is now yellow tinted from fur and dander. The throw blankets don’t stay on or the boys kick them off. The right side is now lopsided because that’s where Lucas sleeps every night… The couch is just a mess. I wish we would’ve gotten a leather in a darker color, so I think you made the right decision!
We had a green and then a red microfiber sectional in our living room. Microfiber was supposed to be the material of choice for pets. Sure, they cleaned easier of fur….but they got so stained from dog drool we had to give up on that! So far, no stains on the leather….fingers crossed!
