This week’s #PetPhotographyChallenge is one of composition. “The other end of the leash” challenges us to use our pet’s leash to tell their story. You can do this by having your pet look up at the camera at an angle that looks like the person who is viewing the image is holding the leash, or by having your pet standing or moving forward, getting the same effect.
We’re having a busy week here, and since I knew I already had a lot of this type of photo, I decided to dig out some old shots to share for this. I even knew where to find them for a change, since I take most photos on walks with my camera phone, and those photos are all in one place on my computer. However, some were taken with my DSLR when I had that out for a review we were writing.
Come along on a walk with us!
Autumn is our favorite time of year for walks; with the crisp, cool air and the beauty of the trees and fallen leaves on the ground, contrasting with the still green grass. I chose these shots because I like how they show the road and trails ahead, giving you a sense of where we’re going.
Walks aren’t all about forward motion with dogs, especially if you have a hound dog, or a dog who most likely has some hound in him. We always take time to stop and enjoy the smells.
Now, put on your snowshoes and join us out in the winter woods!

Did you feel like you were there?
Those are nice pictures. I find those kinds of pictures the hardest to take.
I feel like I was holding the leash! Very nice.
All great photos, I did feel like I was there.
Great photos! I tend to walk both my dogs at the same time, which rarely leaves an available hand for photos. You’ve inspired me to try a different perspective.
I want to start walking them together more, and I have a hands free leash for Cricket, which is going to make things so much easier!
Those are great photos! Pierre constantly rushes when he is on the leash. Bentley’s got the opposite problem as he likes to stop. LOL!
Your arms must be stretched one end to the other when you’re walking them. LOL Luke and Cricket seem to want to stick together, and Cricket did like being stuck behind with me when we went snowshoeing! 🙂
Those were fun photos, except my feet got cold!
Lots of good walking and sniffing fun!
Looks like some fun walks! Stopping to let the dog smell the smells–what a familiar sight 🙂
autumn is our favourite time too… and the smells in the air are wonderful!!!
We see you found the right scent

Great photo choices, Jan! I DID feel like I was right there with you!
I have some photos of my walks at the park with Callie and Shadow (while Ducky was at daycare), too. Of course, I’d have to look through them to find the better ones, but at least I have an idea of where they are. ????
With dogs, walking is the elixir of life…the movement, the smells…it’s all too fantastic. Great perspective from the ‘other end of the leash.’
Those were awesome pictures! What fun times walking.
