Of the many cats in my life, we’ve only had three others who lived as long as 15 years. Concha, 18, Conrad, 17, and Don Juan, 16. None of them had ongoing health issues though, so I’m even more impressed with Sam making it to 15. She has hyperthyroidism, hypertension, and she is mostly, if not completely, blind.
Just two years ago we thought we were going to lose her, and yet here she is, still going strong! At this time she is doing well (knock wood), taking all her pills and getting around her area well. She occasionally has some misses here and there, stumbling over something, but nothing significant. We still have the occasional litter box issue, but I’m pretty sure she enjoys challenging us when it comes to that and food as well.

I had written earlier this year about the new wet food that she loved, Tiki Cat, but over time that had changed. She wasn’t eating well in the mornings again (she gets dry food at night, and she always eats that, but we want her to have wet food too). However, I came back from BlogPaws with a few different samples of food, and she has been gobbling up all the new ones we’ve tried so far! We’ll report later about what she loves, once we see if she really sticks with it!
Sam is getting a special kind of homemade gift for her birthday, and I’ll share some photos of that tomorrow for our Favorite Photo Friday post.
Happy Birthday to our sweet Samantha, we love you so much, and here’s hoping you turn out to be our longest living cat yet! No matter what, we will enjoy every day we still have with you. ♥
Happy Birthday Samantha
Happy belated birthday Sam! Nestle likes a pate style food over the chunky stuff. It is not easy to find though, but I have been feeding her Nulo which is pate and she is a happy kitty.
I’m glad I started here and didn’t jump ahead. Even though I’m late, I still want to wish Sam a Happy Birthday! Now, I’m off to see what homemade gift she got.
Happy belated birthday Samantha! Sorry it took so long to get over to send our wishes, hope you had a lovely day and have many more to come! Love Dolly
“Better late than never” always holds true, especially for birthdays. Thank you, Dolly!
Happy belated birthday! Our cats sure do like to keep us on our toes with what they like to eat, don’t they?
I’m pretty sure they live to challenge us! I’m wondering if I need to be more diligent in changing Sam’s wet food every so often, before she gets tired of it, so I can come back to it later. But it’s so hard to figure out what to try. She likes most things with gravy, but then sometimes she doesn’t! LOL
Happy belated birthday!
Happy birthday sweetie.

And Jan, sounds like you’re doing something right. What a blessing to have such long lived animals in your life.
I’m not sure if it’s anything we’re doing, or just simply a blessing, but thank you, Pamela. Our cat Concha was really the most amazing. She was my first cat, found as a stray when I was a teenager. I left her behind with my parents when I went to college, but then got her back later. She was an outdoor cat, who only visited the vet once in her whole life to get spayed. Kind of makes you think, doesn’t it?
