Welcome our new little ones!
These 12 chicks are settling in nicely, making a mess, and growing already!
This time we got 5 different breeds: 2 Black Sexlink, 2 White Leghorn (prolific egg layers), 2 Columbian Rock Cross, 2 Rhode Island White, and 4 Araucana (we’re still hoping for those blue or green eggs!). I was surprised to find that 7 of these chicks are yellow, so we’re not sure who everyone is yet!
The three brown and one yellow one are Aracauna (they always come in different colors), the two black are of course the Sexlink, and the rest are all yellow. At just a few days old, they are already starting to show their feathers in their wings, and they were hopping or flying up onto their heater on the very first day!
The hope is to only have them in the house for 3-4 weeks, as long as they feather out well and the nights are a little warmer, they can hopefully go to the coop by early June. I got the best photos I could, even with my good camera.
The light is not great in their room, plus they don’t stand still enough! They’re also still shy so they try to hide when we visit them, though a couple of them definitely seem braver and friendlier.
I’ll try to get some better photos when I have more time, or when we get a brighter day out so more natural light comes in. They’re going to grow fast, that’s for sure!
