What a Difference Just a Few Days Makes!
It has been an unusual autumn, to say the least, but we’ll spare you from lamenting about our weather in this post! It was less than a week ago that Luke and I were on our walk, and I thought it was odd that so many trees still had some green leaves:

Even more odd was the color of the forest carpet, with so many greens in there.

Now less than a week later, here is what it looks like on that same trail!

It’s amazing how much it changed in such a short time. While we’re entering our more drab part of the season, waiting for snow to fall, we still searched for some color that Mother Nature might share with us, and found this pretty scene:

I did finally get Samantha out to get some photos of her on our autumn decorated front step.

That was from a couple weeks ago; that poor Mum plant is not looking quite so healthy now, and our little pumpkins never did turn completely orange. We may be getting some of that white stuff soon, but we’re not really in any rush, even though the first snow is always the prettiest.
We’re happy to have this new Nature Friday blog hop (replacing the Flower Friday hop for the winter) to share some of the beauty around us even when the flowers are not in bloom!
What is Mother Nature up to in your neck of the woods?
Thank you to our friends at Living, Laughing & Barking in Our Backyard for hosting the new hop! Please visit other blogs through the links below to enjoy more of nature’s beauty.
We are still soggy. We did get snow last Thursday, but then the rain came right behind it. It is still there, just wet and heavy and the grass is showing through in most parts.
We had the same leaf problem, and I was beginning to be concerned. I remember well the early, heavy snow we got a few years back when the trees still had so many leaves, and the combination of the leaves and the heavy wet snow left most of us without power for at least a week.
Hope we dry out soon.
I remember that storm too. So many trees had so much damage! I don’t remember how long we lost our power for though, I don’t think we got that part as bad as other places like yours did.
Autumn always goes by too fast but it sounds as if yours lasted only about a week. Samantha looks gorgeous on your beautifully decorated porch!
We really didn’t get a lot of enjoyment out of Autumn this year, not our usual favorite season! But we still made the best of it.
Mother nature always keeps us guessing to when our leaves will change and fall too. What a beautiful area!!
Thank you! We just love it here.
Wow, that’s the most beautiful Mum plant I’ve ever seen, Jan! Three colors in one pot and so full!! And the most beautiful kitty and dog of course! You had one of those white pumpkins too?! AND, did you get a taste of that white stuff tonight?? Yep, I drove home in it! Went from a driving rain to a blinding snow. Hopefully gone tomorrow!
I looked at that plant at the farm stand every time I worked, and finally couldn’t resist bringing it home! I got the white pumpkin there too. We didn’t get too much snow that other day, even though it looked like a blizzard out there! But this morning we woke up to about 2 inches on the ground!
Nice photos of Luke. And Samantha looks so pretty in the fall scenery.
Thank you! I knew those fall decorations needed a black cat, even if it was too late for Halloween. š
You have some beautiful examples of nature in your neck of the woods!
We love being surrounded by nature’s beauty!
It’s so pretty with the greens, oranges and yellows. Mama says we won’t see da yellows and oranges til mid December..maybe š Sam & Matilda could be BFF’s cause efurytime she is doing sumfin cute or somewhat posing Mama grabs her camera and then Matilda looks away or starts cleaning herself. BOL
xoxo,
Matt (& Matilda)
Those darn cats – no cooperation!! š
I do think the greens along with the fall colors did make for a very pretty scene.
LOVED your photos! When I took my walk with the hubby less than a week ago, the leaves were still quite green here too. I heard that is because it stayed warm for so long. I can’t get their blog…….it’s not coming to my email anymore along with a bunch of others. I don’t think they are on BlogLovin’ either. š
Thank you!
That’s too bad you don’t get them in your email anymore. I usually barely make it through my emails and rarely make it to Bloglovin’, though I do skim the emails for anything that jumps out. It’s so hard to keep up with everyone!
Such a beautiful fall walk, I love leave photos. The photo with sam is awesome too.
Thank you, so glad you enjoyed them!
Wow! It looks so different. Our weather changed from summer to winter overnight. No fall at all. I love mums but always kill them.
It’s tough to get mums to last very long around here either. When the nights get super cold, I put them inside to help, but with that big container that got old quickly! LOL
Followed you on G+. Please follow me back.
Done!
Beautiful Autumn you are having. We had our first flurries on the ground this morning. We were at 30 degrees this Morning. Brrr.
We’re getting some very cold nights now, and got our first significant snow last night – 2 inches on the ground when we woke up.
Samantha looks so pretty with the flowers! We have had a weird fall, too. Our leaves were all green and then overnight they all fell and are yellow!
Not much of a fall anywhere this year I guess!
We don’t like it when the leaves fall and fade away for the brrrrr season!
We love autumn, but not what it leads up to!! š
We have no idea what Mother Nature is up to here! Some days it’s really cold and windy, other days it’s warm and rainy, we’ve had a handful of warm and sunny days–and now they’re saying possible snow (but the temperatures are predicted to be in the 40s?). As long as we can get out for a few dry walks, we’re just going with the flow. Glad you and Luke are still getting to enjoy some nature, too!
I saw all that snow you got! We only got a small amount, and it was gone by morning. Your girls looked pretty happy about it! Cricket was our snow lover here, so I’m not sure how the first big one will go over with Luke, now that he doesn’t have his sister to follow around in the snow.
We are looking forward to this hop in the coming weeks. Last night we got our third snow of the season. It’s not much, but everything is white. The girls and I are loving the cold weather. The leaves are pretty much down here, and now are under some snow. Bring on the winter!
We know how much you love winter over there, so we’re glad you’ve seen some snow! We have only seen a little bit, and it hasn’t stuck around at all.
our mum’s look also no longer strong and proud… more like the melting wicked witch ;O) it’s amazing how fast mother nature can change her dresses ;O)
She is a wily one, that Mother Nature! š
I wonder if the change has to do with the colder weather. Around here, it seems like a little over a week ago, the cold hit for good and colors started changing. Sam does her with panache š
You are probably right. While it has seemed plenty chilly here, we hadn’t gotten those very cold nights until recently.
