If you have been reading lately and know our dogs, you would probably think they were excited about the foot and a half of snow we received this week. I’ve mostly been in hibernation mode myself on these March days that feel more like January. However, I still expected the dogs to be up and raring to go outside to play in the fresh snow on Wednesday morning.
Not so much. I think winter is even getting to them now. I looked out the door that morning and saw very few trails in the snow. It didn’t really look like anyone had been out there gleefully running around yet. Luke even seemed reluctant to head out there to do his business.

He did ultimately blaze a new trail, in order to go to the bathroom. Cricket was cozily ensconced on her dog bed, and she never bugged me to go out at all.

Much to everyone’s surprise, it is not SNOW that we are thankful for on this Thursday, it is TOYS.
Cricket started out strong that morning, waking me up from my sleep-in, to go running down the hall to get a toy. She’s been so funny lately, showing up with toys that she does not usually play with. Luke was still sound asleep next to me, and I just watched Cricket playing for a bit. She is so cute when she’s playing, she makes these little squeaky noises that almost sounds like she’s humming to herself as she plays.
She had been playing with toys the previous day when we were in the middle of the big blowing snowstorm too. Toys seem to be the big hit suddenly, and that works for me. We still try to get outside some, but staying inside playing and training keeps us much warmer.

We did ultimately go out to play in the snow, but it was tough going out there, especially for Cricket. I tried to take some video, and hopefully we’ll be sharing some of that with you next week. We didn’t lose power from the snowstorm, but our internet became very temperamental, so I haven’t been able to upload the videos yet, and now I’m behind on everything again!

We all seem to be ready for spring, and we’d like to put our hibernation to an end, but in the meantime some of our long-neglected toys are getting some much deserved attention! Well, other than my slippers which Luke seems to prefer over toys lately, I’m not really thankful that he’s obsessed with those!

Cricket looks like she’s pawing out a snow S.O.S. ????
Hee hee. I don’t know about Cricket, but we got another 4 inches of snow today, so I’m sure sending out an SOS! LOL
I see your dogs like slippers too.
Slippers are SO much better than toys, says Luke! 🙂
Love the trails. We never really got deep snow this year. I think brown dawgs are jealous.
I can’t believe how many big storms we’ve had this year. The snow seems to want to come all at once!
Those pictures of Cricket with her head barely above the snow are the most adorable pictures I’ve seen. She acts like it’s no big deal – like nothing will stop her. Bear Cat does that with toys too. Every so often, he’ll start playing with a toy he’s had for years and never touched before. I joke that it must’ve mocked him all of a sudden … because otherwise, what was different about that ONE day?!?! And then the next, it’s “dead” to him again.
LOL, I like that theory of the toys mocking them! There has to be a reason they are all of the sudden in favor, doesn’t there?
Love this, no wonder the pups were ready to rest this evening, Jan! Love the tales of the toys-Cricket enjoying hers, her contented humming noises too cute-and Luke pretending not to be interested-until the moment is right, ha-ha! And then yeah, Cricket getting through all that snow is just too much! Her little body gets through it like a 4 wheel drive! Or a 4 cyl with great snow tires and front wheel drive?? 🙂
Oh, how long did you let the “good chew” go on with your slippers, and that slippery Luke??
Such cuties both…
Cricket is definitely like a little 4-wheel drive! I didn’t let Luke keep the slipper for long, so only one corner is chewed a little bit. 🙂
Looks like they had a fun inside snow day.
I don’t want the duck. No, really I don’t. I won’t take it. Or maybe I will.
LOL. It’s their favorite little game to play with toys. Feigning disinterest. When Sheba was still with us, she and Luke would be playing with a toy, and Cricket would just sit nearby and wait for them to let go of it and starting playing with each other instead. Then she’d dive right in and grab it!
Thank goodness for toys! That did look like tough snow to plow through for Cricket. I’m glad that she has her toys to keep her happy. I love your description of her humming to herself as she plays!
Cricket is such a happy little dog, no matter what, that’s one of the things I love so much about her. 🙂
Rye has developed a thing for slippers lately, too! That picture of Cricket in the snow is crazy! Most of our drifted (right behind my car–ugh), so our yard wasn’t quite as much of a challenge, but Rye found some drifts that were almost as deep as she is tall and she thought they were the very best. Barley preferred to stay inside, too. Glad you all survived the storm!
As long as I don’t have to go out on the roads in the snow, it’s all fine to me. The crew has been venturing out and enjoying the snow more now, but we keep losing balls out there!
At this time of year, a lot of snow gets really old. We’re looking forward to sunshine and flowers! 😉
You’re so right! This would have been all good in January; but now we’re ready for spring too! At least we are getting some sunshine this weekend; and that makes it feel warmer.
That is an insane amount of snow! I cannot imagine having to go take care of business in that. BOL! It is lovely but I think I’ll stick with our 2″ every few years. ☺
We keep our snow in the mountains and visit it less and less as the years go by.
That seems like a very good plan. 🙂
Normally we lose a lot of our snow enthusiasm by this time of year, but this year, we had so little snow, we are still loving any snow we get! Hope things get back to normal for you all soon.
They are enjoying the snow more now, it’s getting packed down out there now. It looks like this round might last for a while too!
Nuts! It sure looks pretty as long as you don’t have to go out
Lily & Edward
Snow is definitely prettier when you’re inside looking out!
I’ve been kinda “hibernating” myself lately – it’s cold outside our back door, too! In a way I wish we had some snow for the girls to play in – Ducky loves it! – and I love watching them try to run in it. But just plain, old bone-chilling temps? No thanks!
Luke reminds me of Callie with the slippers. But with Callie, it was my then-favorite sneakers. The stinker chewed the one completely apart. And Cricket’s sweet little humming noises? Too precious for words!!
We try to keep most of our shoes out of Luke’s reach. But my slippers are in the closet, which is also his “safe place”, so I can’t really close it off from him. I do put my favorite slippers out of his reach though!
I want to try to get Cricket’s “humming” noises on video, but it’s so quiet I’m not sure it will come through. Beagles seem to be so vocal in many ways. Kobi always made a grunting noise when he was happy!
Oh my gosh, so much snow! We don’t blame anyone for wanting to stay inside and play with toys.
I can’t say I have ever been out in any snow, but I would vote in favor of the nice long snoozy! Thanks for joining the Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
It’s definitely been nice long snoozy weather, that’s for sure!
It’s good to have an eye on your toys :o) I love the garden design you made… the trails look a little like the gardens of versailles now :o)
