With three different types of dogs in our household, plus a long haired cat, grooming is a constant challenge. Only our golden retriever Sheba goes to the groomer every few months or so, but in between that I do it all myself. It’s important for me to have the right tools to make that job easier.
GoPets is a company that believes pets are a part of our family. They started out because of the desire to create quality products for those pet families. Because of that commitment, they provide an Unconditional Lifetime Guarantee on all of their products, and they donate 10% of their profits to animal welfare, including no-kill shelters and rescues.
I couldn’t wait to give these tools a try. Each of our dogs has a different type of fur, and I found a favorite brush to use for each of them.
Luke is just learning to enjoy being brushed, and even though his short fur doesn’t require a lot of brushing, it still helps to reduce the fur that gathers around our house. He enjoyed the brush side of the Best Pin & Bristle Brush, and the pin side can be used where his fur is just a bit thicker, such as around his neck.
I was very excited to see how well the Best Deshedding Tool worked on Cricket! Cricket has coarse fur in many places, and even though she also doesn’t seem to shed much, look what I got off her in just a few strokes! Even better is the fact that you can just press that black button and the fur ejects automatically. That makes for very easy clean up.
Of course, Sheba with her long fur requires the most grooming. She gets mats if I don’t keep up with it. A groomer once recommended a slicker brush for her, and that has long been my favorite type to use on her. It gets out the undercoat, and smooths at the same time. GoPets Best Slicker Brush is so easy to use. The bristles are self cleaning as well…just press the button and they retract, and the fur just falls right off. They stay retracted when not in use, protecting the bristles from damage.
Sheba fidgets when it comes to grooming time, so we usually keep our sessions short. This is what I got off her in just a few minutes. Slicker brush on the right, de-matting tool on the left:
I didn’t get a chance to try out the Best Dematting Comb too much, because Sheba actually doesn’t have many mats right now. I found one underneath her back leg to work on, but she only had so much patience with that. But the little bit I tried seemed to be getting it out. I am sure I will get plenty of chances to use it in the future, she was at the groomer not too long ago which is the only reason she’s in good condition right now.
Keeping nails trimmed is another very important part of grooming. GoPets makes two different sizes of Best Dog Nail Clippers. The smaller ones can be used on small dogs and cats, and the larger for dogs with thicker nails. Both have easy to lock blades for safety, and include nail files as well. I found the nail files to work very well. Actually, I was impressed with how much better they work than other nail files I’ve used. Since I’m a bit chicken, and don’t always clip as close as I could, I love a good nail file to smooth the nail out after clipping. None of the dogs are thrilled with this process either, so it’s never easy.
All the tools from GoPets have ergonomic, non-slip handles that are very easy to hold onto. Since I have issues with my hands and gripping, this is very important to me. Plus, they can be used on cats as well! Samantha is not very cooperative with any type of grooming, but I try to keep her brushed. In the past, I never clipped my cats’ nails, but after Sam had an ingrown toenail, I now clip hers as well as the dogs’. Sam is pretty petite, so some of the brushes are a little large for use on her, but I still gave the de-shedding comb a try on her and it worked great.
I think GoPets‘ prices are very reasonable, and less expensive than other well known brand names out there. They also make this handy Best Travel Dog Bowl as well as a couple other products for dogs and cats. You can learn more about them through their website or Facebook page.
