Give Cancer the Paw is a brand new quarterly blog hop started by Jackie of Pooch Smooches and Peggy of Peggy’s Pet Place. This hop is for sharing information, personal experiences, support, or anything else related to pet cancer.
Some of my regular readers may know that we lost our Golden Retriever Moses to cancer just this last Summer. Therefore this is a subject that is very important to me, but it goes further back than the loss of Moses.
For this first hop I just want to share some photos of Moses and 4 other pets that we have lost to cancer over the years.
There is a great non-profit organization that is doing research into cancer in animals, called Morris Animal Foundation. Click on their name to be taken to their website for more information or if you’d perhaps like to make a donation.
Another group I’d like to mention is the Riedel and Cody Fund. This group provides support, resources, and treatment funding for people whose pets have cancer. If one of your furry loved ones has cancer, they are there to help.
Thanks for sharing all those pictures, so hard to have lost them all to cancer….
Wags to all,
Your pal Snoopy 🙂
It is so nice to have some great photos and memories of each of them and to be able to share them.
Thanks for coming by, Snoopy!
It’s hard enough to lose one pet to cancer but you lost so many. I am so sorry. It breaks my heart. Cancer sucks.
Thank you. It really does suck…especially the younger ones. Shelby was only 6! That was really difficult, since it was so unexpected. Worse thing is that others have lost them even younger than that.
They are all precious pets. It’s unfortunate to hear that so many had to lose to the stinky cancer 🙁
Reading some of the statistics on the other blogs was so sad too….there are so many lost to it. I hope they can someday figure out why.
So many babies lost to cancer! Here’s to awareness leading to a cure!
Amen!!
So many pets lost. Mom has lost a couple cats and a dog to cancer. It is an awful disease, but when it strikes younger pets it is even worse.
It is in awful disease. I’m sorry your Mom lost pets that way too, Emma. It is a bit easier to accept when the pets are older….but in the young ones it is just so hard to understand why it has to happen.
Big brother Simba passed due to cancer. 🙁 Woo!
I’m so sorry you lost your brother Simba, Ku. It seems it has touched so many of us.
Thank you for joining our hop and for sharing pictures of your sweet angels. I’m sorry for your losses. I read that golden retrievers have a 60% chance of getting cancer. But there is research going on to help understand why and hopefully make a positive change.
Thank you, Peggy. I never knew until after we lost Moses how common cancer could be in goldens. It makes me worry for Sheba. But then again Shelby was a mixed breed and it got her even younger than Moses. So you just can’t know. We just have to hope they can find out more to slow it down.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m learning so much from these blog posts today. I think I’ve always wanted to think we were immune, but after losing Blue recently, I just want to be educated and make sure our dogs have the best life possible.
I know how you lost Blue, Kimberly, and we also lost one in that tragic way. Bottom line is that it sucks no matter how it happens. We just have to try to control what we can and hope for the best. I think this hop will help us all learn some things that we can do to perhaps protect our dogs from cancer when possible anyway.
What beautiful angels! Gosh, some of them were so young too. Thank you for sharing them with us, and thanks for joining our hop!
Thank you, Jackie. Thank you for starting this hop, it’s great. Hopefully it won’t always have to be sad. I hope to see some stories of dogs who have beat it!
Awww sweet angels. How tough though, to lose all those friends to cancer.
Thank you, Roxy. I think it touches so many people and it is so sad.
Great post! Like you, I’ve lost more than one furry member of the family to cancer.
Thank you, Sue. It is tough, especially when they are young.
Sorry about Moses and to learn of your other pets that were stricken with cancer.
Thank you.
Good information. So sorry about the pets lost. Thanks for sharing them.
Thank you!!
