New blossoms are opening every day here! It’s interesting how some stay the same year-to-year, and some are more or less prolific. The clematis vines seem to get bigger and bigger every year, and the size of the blossoms is amazing. They are definitely one of my favorites.
These yellow lilies are always the first of the lilies to blossom every year. I’m not sure why they are so much earlier than the others!
We also have more mystery flowers to share this week. All the mystery flowers this year seem to be pink!
I’m still working on our memorial garden, but I like to share bits and pieces of it as we go along and wait for things to fill in. I started these nasturtiums from seed inside the house, and I didn’t think they were going to make it until I could get them outside! They did, and they’re doing quite well. I chose these flowers because the blossoms and leaves are good for the chickens. I’m enjoying them right now though, so the chickens aren’t getting them yet!
I love how flowers can evoke memories as well. I will forever think of our Angel Cricket every spring when these Cranesbills geraniums open up. That puts them to the top of my favorites list too, along with the fact that they blossom all summer long. That’s where our Flashback Friday comes in. This picture is etched in my mind of Cricket among the flowers with a ball in her mouth. It was originally shared in our post last summer “Prolific Beauty“.
You can’t even see the geraniums that well in that photo, but wow – those persian lilac bushes, right? They barely blossomed at all this year!! I also went one more summer back to our post that was part of our plant safety series “The Challenges of Gardening with Dogs – Are Your Plants Safe? Part III“, and found a photo of Cricket in the geraniums and our Angel Sheba photo-bombing!
I thought I’d share a photo from this year of Luke in front of the flowers, but he was more interested in sniffing weeds than looking at the camera. Please excuse all the weeds on our patio! That’s on the summer “to-do” list. White vinegar will take care of those!
Certain flowers, like lilacs, always make me think of my Mom too. I’ll have some others that remind me of her to share in the future.
Do flowers evoke memories for you?
Thank you to our friends at Living Laughing Barking in Our Backyard for hosting the Flower Friday blog hop! Please visit other blogs through the links below.
My grandmother had a forsythia bush in her back yard. Every year at Easter we would get a new outfit for church and have out photo taken in front of that bush.
When I see a forsythia bush, I always flash back to that.
It’s nice that the flowers remind you of Cricket.
I love that memory, and I LOVE forsythias. We had some beautiful bushes at our old house, and I have a lot of photos of Sheba, Moses, and Cricket playing in front of that yellow beauty. I’ll always remember that too. ♥
Great flash back and beautiful memories. Beautiful flowers.
Thank you, JoAnn! ♥
Wow! Those flowers are all so pretty! Your yard must smell great. The only bulbs we brought from Louisiana to Texas are the spider lilies. We dug them from the backyard of Skip’s childhood home after his dad passed away. They are very precious to me and I hope they bloom. ♥
It seems like there is always something blossoming and smelling wonderful here!
What a lovely idea to take some of those lilies from Skip’s home. I home they bloom for you too. ♥
Your gardens are beautiful. Purple hyacinth always remind me of my former kitty Smokey. They’re one of our first bloomers every spring. It was wonderful to see angel Sheba again.
Thank you! I was so glad to find Sheba in that photo too.
Your yard is beautiful! My husband and I are allergic to many green growing things and every time I want to plant blossoming foliage, he objects. So our yard has trees and a garden, but no flowers. I’m beginning to think it’s time to rebel as I see so many pictures of such beautiful yards. But here in the west, we live perpetually on the edge of drought and everything must be watered to stay alive — much different than back east. For now, I’ll just admire your beautiful flowers from afar.
Thank you! That’s one of the one things I love about blogging….we can live vicariously through others when needed. We’ve been pretty dry here this spring, which doesn’t usually happen to us until August. I’ve had to focus on trying to keep the vegetable garden watered, but the flowers don’t seem to mind too much. 🙂
Love! Beautiful all, no more words from me necessary
Thank you, Lynnie. ♥
What beautiful flowers..and wonderful memories!!
Thank you! Thanks for having this hop and giving me an excuse to share them. ♥
I love the nasturtiums!!! I’ve never seen those before but they are gorgeous. And I love the flashbacks! Those geraniums with Cricket in them are so brilliant and such a nice memory. I love that Sheba photobombed one of them. Flowers do evoke memories for me… but the stories are too long and involved for here!
I could also go on and on about all my mother taught me about flowers and gardening. I’m pretty sure nasturtiums were one that we planted when I was growing up, but I don’t think I’ve had any since then until now.
Everything is beautiful, especially the clemantis. Ours has 3 flowers 🙁
I don’t know what makes this one so prolific. I do absolutely nothing to it. Maybe that’s the trick. LOL. I try but I don’t really have much of a green thumb, I’m just persistent!
My mom is a serious lilac lover! Nice flowers!
I always remember that those are one of your Mom’s favorite. They are my favorite flower to cut and bring in the house; their scent is so amazing! Those persian ones smell different though (and blossom later) and I don’t like them as much.
Your flowers are all so pretty and we hope you have a very nice weekend!
It was a rainy and cool weekend here, but it was still the weekend! 🙂
A few do bring up memories for me – and yours include Cricket and Sheba – who you know I love. Cricket and her ball … plants, snow … nothing stands in her way!
And you know that I love how much you love them too and enjoy seeing them. I think you were the one who mentioned something about her in the flowers with the ball, that stuck with me, and helps to keep that memory alive for me. Thank you. ♥
The flowers are gorgeous! We love the clematis.
It’s at it’s peak now, but it will continue to flower, just not so profusely, right through the summer.
Gosh your flowers are gorgeous! Well worth the wait, I say. That clematis is incredible!
Thank you, they definitely are worth the wait. The clematis amaze me, they haven’t had a down year yet (unlike the lilacs). I had one at our other house but it never got as big as this one.
So pretty. Those pink flowers are unusual, and very nice.
Some day I’ll even figure out what they are. 🙂
So many beautiful flowers.
And oh yes, flowers and memories… One example – My father and his older brother forever competing over who grew the best sweet peas. An affectionate sibling rivalry still going strong into their eighties.
Cheers, Gail.
I love it!!
your farm is a wonderful place… I would like to spend summer there…;O))
Maybe we should open an Air B&B?
