“The ones just squawking away? Those are the males. ” That made me laugh.
We have place in our neighborhood that has chickens. Sometimes on our morning walk, I hear that rooster at the butt crack of dawn.
Right now, we have a goose at work. It’s hanging out by one of my co-worker’s windows. They definitely bring a smile to my face.
We decided not to get a rooster for now, though the crowing isn’t the main reason. Still, I have enough trouble getting a good night’s sleep without that waking me up early! At least the chickens and guineas are in the coop in the morning, and we can’t hear their chattering (I actually think they’re quiet until they know we’re coming anyway!).
Honestly, I had no idea I was going to love having birds so much! I had parakeets as a child, but that was it. I’ve always enjoyed watching wild birds though, so I guess it’s not a total surprise. Anyway, I’m so glad we got them.
Rye loved this video! She was trying to snoop in the closet when I started playing it and ran over to rest her head on my knee and see what was going on. Maybe I need to get a few guinea hens to keep her out of trouble!
I bet some guineas would definitely keep Rye occupied! Luke is funny, sometimes he ignores them completely, other times he just loves to run at and along the fence with them. With all the snow they don’t come up to the dog fence much…so occasionally he barks out the window at them. LOL
Just love your birds!!!
I just can’t get over how much fun they are!
And I thought the jays in our yard were annoying! Are they that squawky very often?
Yes, unfortunately, they are! It doesn’t really bother me, other than I think something might be wrong. The only time it can really get to me though, is when I’m inside the coop or garage and they’re doing it. That can get to be a bit much! They also make some sweet noises too though, I’m going to share a video of that as well, hopefully next week. So you can see they’re not all bad. 🙂
OMD, that is too funny! Like Mommakat said….LOL. And, like Madison, Ducky likes to boss all of us around too. 😉
Girls can be bossy, can’t they? I know that Cricket is the boss around here. She showed that yesterday. Luke will bark at her sometimes when one of us gets home….his way of trying to hog all the attention. Last night she barked right back at him….too funny….and he pretty much backed right down!
OMD OMC they are da cutest!! Mama hopes one day to live on land so her can has some farm animals.
xoxo,
Matt & Matilda
I hope she gets to have her dream come true too! It’s so much fun. xxoo
Nice video, they all look very happy.
Thank you! They certainly seem to have a good time, that’s for sure. 🙂
“The ones just squawking away? Those are the males.” Hahahahaha. Across species, they do like to hear the sound of their own voices, don’t they?
Yup, that’s the truth! LOL
Pierre tilted his head back and forth while the video played. LOL! You are going to be in trouble if the chickens hotwire that car. Hahaha!
I certainly wouldn’t put it past them – LOL!!
Goodness that’s a lot of racket! I can see why the one hen hangs out with the chickens! Sandra and Dolly
I think she does it on purpose, just to tick them off. LOL!
That’s so crazy they hang out in the trees.
It’s an adventure waiting to see where they’ll go next (including on top of our buildings too)!
We sure enjoyed seeing them, no wonder you love them so much!
They are so entertaining, and we’re glad you enjoyed it too!
I’m like your violet… a small hobbit butt the leader (at least I hope so) :o) our neighbor will get 40 guineas in march, all other neighbors are on the war path for the noises, but my smart daddy offered him our meadow for his chickens… he really knows how to become (UN)popular in our hood ;O))))))
Oh boy, that is too funny! Can’t wait to see how all that turns out!
It seems small creatures always try to be the leaders. Little Miss Sassy Pants likes to boss us all around here at home too. I guess if you don’t need the entire garage, there is no harm in letting the birds use it.
The garage gives them a little more room to roam when they don’t want to be outside in the weather, so I do like them to have it. We have a small barn which would be preferable, but my hubby has that full of stuff so they don’t have as much room in there (though they do hang out there sometimes too).
Cricket is the boss around here too, she has been ever since Kobi passed on. Little ones like to make up for their small size with big attitudes, I think!
