My flower gardens have been sadly neglected this year, since I’ve been so busy with my new shop. Luckily we have so many perennials around the farm, that Mother Nature takes care of a lot of it for me.

The phlox and hosta are fighting it out here. This year it seems the phlox is winning, but I think that’s because hosta is a favorite of the chickens to munch on!
I did get to plant a few annuals that I started from seed though. I had just enough to fill these two window boxes.

The window box flowers always make me think of our angel cat Sam, since they were outside “her” window. I’m sure she’d be pleased that I at least got some in there this year (I don’t think I did last year).
I never got around to filling this pot on our patio, but these volunteers, alyssum and petunias showed up anyway!

It has been so fun to watch Mama hen Bella and her chicks hanging out in the coop and run. We’ve never had little ones running around in there before, they were always kept in a cage (with no Mama). They are fast little things! I’ll get some photos of them outside in the run soon. Mama is teaching them how to take dust baths already!
The little family is doing quite well so far! The chicks stick pretty close to Mama, but once in a while they get a little rebellious and don’t follow her!

I gave them all some parsley to munch on, but the little ones just mostly wanted to play with it! 🙂

Isn’t summer wonderful?
Thanks to our friends The LLB Gang for hosting the Nature Friday blog hop. Please visit them and other blogs through the links below!
Yes, summer is most wonderful! Your flowers are lovely and so awesome to see that cute chick family!! Love how happy they all are!
They are busy little birds, and we can’t believe that they can fly up to the big roosts already!
You are so lucky with your volunteers; mine are all weeds. 🙁 I love your chicken mama and the shine she has taken to her adoptees!
We’re so thrilled with the job she’s been doing!! We have no shortage of weeds here either, I’ve been trying to cut some back so the rest of the flowers stand a chance to come through!
Your flowers look great! I need to plant some in our front flower bed. It’s just sooooo hot!
Thank you! I can imagine it’s too hot for planting there!
Your flowers look great. Thankfully, most plants can tolerate a year of neglect and be just fine (sometimes even better). The chicks are adorable!
Yes, and in my experience, they often do better on their own! But the weeds are trying to take over so I’m trying to get in there to help that situation, even when I just have a few minutes here and there to do so.
My flowers have been neglected this year too, and like you, I’m grateful that Mother Nature is there – Just like your sweet Mamma hen Bella teaching her little ones, who are growing way too fast!
They sure are! It’s a good thing Mother Nature is sometimes on our side – LOL.
It amuses me to no end … humans … cats … chickens … the kids are always the same! Of course, when my brother and I were kids, they still made those tethers that hook parent and child – so we never got very far, no matter how distracted we got.
Oh gosh, I didn’t think anyone really used those tethers on children, but it’s a darn good idea! LOL
Very beautiful, flowers and chickens and Luke too.
I love your Day Lilies. I need to find out if they will grow at my high altitude! Those fuzzy little chicks are SO cute!
Lilies seem to grow pretty easily here, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they’d grow anywhere!
We love to see where ‘volunteers’ end up growing! We have lots of volunteer sunflowers, but the squirrels chop them all down before they grow very big…let alone make flowers, BOL! They also eat lots of other desirable plants…sheesh.
Your blooms are everr so pretty, and its fun to see Mama Bella with the chicks:)
Thanks! Usually I get volunteer sunflowers too; but this year I didn’t. Maybe the squirrels ate them all last year!
Pretty blooms. And such cute little chicks.
Those baby chicks are adorable! But soon they will get big…and be running all over the place. 🙂
Yup! Pretty soon they’ll be lost in the crowd. LOL
Summer is definitely wonderful!! Thanks for the tour of the yard :-)!
Thanks for coming by to see!
Those flowers are all so pretty and how cool to see Bella and the wee ones running around. I hope you find that chippy Luke!
Either way, they keep him busy looking! 🙂
I trust all is going well at A Farm Girl’s Finds! 🥰 I don’t spend much time on social media these days between dealing with hubby’s alternate, dementia-induced, persona and Ducky’s anxieties when he shows up. It gets a bit tense around here.
Your perennials are beautiful; and I’m sure Angel Samantha is very happy to see the flowers outside her window. 🐱
Thank you! Sorry things have been rough there; hope they are quieter now. xo
Lovely flowers. It’s a good thing Mother Nature and perennials help our garden out too (and I don’t have anywhere near the busy schedule as you so well done). I always get so excited with volunteers. Your baby chicks are just so adorable. Bet they’re growing fast. Have a great weekend.
They are growing SO fast. Wait until you see the next round of photos, I didn’t get any taken for this week though.
Yes summer is wonderful. Seeing Luke is wonderful. Seeing what you’re up to is wonderful.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. Smooches to Mr. Luke. ♥
Thank you!! ♥♥♥
oh you have phlox? that#s the most beautiful childhood memory plant…
We have the tall kind. When I was a kid we always had the kind that was more of a ground cover. I never even knew there was a tall variety until we bought this house!
We are not summer fans as you know, but most people enjoy it. Those little chicks are so very cute. Hopefully your new store is coming along well.
The store is doing well, thank you, though still slow. If this pandemic ever lets up I expect it will get better.
We love all of your beautiful flowers and the little chicks are soooooooooo cute!
I can’t believe how fast they are growing though! More photos next week so you can see too.
