We got Luke and Sheba some new toys for their birthdays! I recently wrote about our challenges with Luke destroying toys, and I promised to update you on how he did with his new toys. Each toy was carefully selected in the hopes it would survive. We’ve had good experiences with a couple of them, and a couple were totally new to us.
I put the toys in two bags and let them pull them out. Sheba kind of hung back and let Luke do all the work!
In that previous post I wrote about how Luke had destroyed the small West Paw Design Bumi we had gotten for him. Since the larger one had held up, I selected a West Paw Tizzi in the large size for his birthday. After I had already purchased that, he chewed the end off the large Bumi. Of course, I was still foolish enough to give them the Tizzi, but look how much fun they had with it!
Now look at what they did to it. As I’ve mentioned before, West Paw toys are guaranteed so you can get a one time replacement if this happens. I can buy the toys wholesale because we sell them at the store I work at, therefore I don’t usually do that. You can also send the toys back to the company for recycling, which I have done once or twice.
That destruction at least didn’t happen for a few days. We also got this Jolly Pets Romp-N-Roll in the largest size and look how much fun Luke is having with it!

I knew the rope inside this was not a good idea for Luke. So I told my hubby that Luke was only allowed to run around outside with this toy and not stop and just chew on it. The next morning as I was getting ready for work, my hubby said Luke was outside having a blast with the toy. I commented that I hoped he was running with it, and not lying down with it chewing. When I came downstairs my hubby showed me the shredded rope which had come out of the toy. Men! Do they ever listen? He is supposed to try to fix it. I hope so, because Luke loved it and the ball by itself doesn’t interest him much.
We had plans to get out the agility equipment for their birthday pawty, but the weather has not cooperated ALL WEEK here, so we never got to do it. It’s been raining off and on almost every day for the last two weeks and the grass never gets a chance to dry. So I was happy to see them having fun with the toys and getting some exercise.
Playing with and chewing on toys is great for dogs in many ways. Luke loves to run around with toys, and he and Sheba will play tug with them, which is good for strengthening their back legs. The exercise of chewing can stimulate a dog’s mind, and at other times it can being relaxing and soothing. It has dental benefits as well….all that chewing can help keep their teeth clean. Luke at how intensely Luke is chewing here, and really getting his back teeth into it!
That is a handmade cotton rope toy from Damien’s Best Dog Toys. We have had many of these toys, and they hold up very well. Eventually Luke or Sheba will get the handle off, but the ball part lasts a long time (and you can buy just the ball as well). These toys are only $10 each and the company donates many of their toys to shelters and rescues, so your purchase contributes to that effort.
Last but not least, we got this fun orbee-tuff sport football from Planet Dog. This company also gives back to animal causes. All toys are made in the USA and 100% guaranteed. So far this toy is holding up! I’ll keep you posted.
*Disclaimer: I purchased all of these toys on my own. I am sharing about them simply because we like them and thought you might too.
Don’t forget our Three Days of Happy birthday giveaway is open through Saturday, click here if you haven’t had a chance to guess Luke’s weight and enter to win two prize packs!

ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
My hubby did fix the Jolly Ball (though I’m sure it’s only temporary) and Luke had a blast with it again.
That is awesome that you’ll be selling the DBDT….I’ll definitely come to your store to buy the next ones!
Oh, my. Luke is my doppleganger…at least with toys!!
Maybe I should take him to some mud puddles and see what he does? You may have even more in common! 🙂
up to photo #5 I had hope you found THE ONE AND ONLY INDESTRUCTIBLE TOY :o) but Luke his a master-chewer :o) but his face in photo #4 is priceless :o)
Maybe one day we’ll find the totally indestructible toy! Luke is a master destructor, but seeing the enjoyment on his face like that photo is what keeps me spending money and trying!
Thanks for the update, that boy is rough on his toys. Glad you got some that are holding up.
He sure is. I actually have one other that’s held up well, that came in our BarkBox, but I need to look up what the brand is.
Wow! Y’all have a lot of great new toys! We LOVE our Damien’s Best Dog Toys. Our are tugged on every day and they still look brand new. What special birthdays this October!
It’s been a great month, but I think we’re worn out! LOL I think your blog was where I first read about Damien’s Best, so thank you!
Happy Halloween! Those look like some great toys! My three chew toys up like they are food or something!
Ha ha, maybe that’s how we need to look at it, like they are food, so we don’t feel like we’re just throwing our money away!
We are always looking for fun toys to play with. Thanks for the recommendations.
You’re welcome! Hope your dogs get a chance to try one of these out.
They look like they’re having a ton of fun! As crazy as Barley is in the rest of her life, with her toys she’s very gentle! She still has her very first stuffed squeaky toy and with the exception of a few stitches where the seams got worn out, he’s in perfect condition!
I can’t remember the last time we had a gentle dog! Even the little beagle will get in on the destruction if the other two get it started. I guess our older beagle was not destructive but he lost interest in toys at a pretty young age.
Bailie is destructive too. We always have to watch her as she loves to chew stuff to death. At least Luke had fun while it lasted. Thanks for joining the hop.
I swear we can’t take our eyes off him for a minute! He does enjoy it while it lasts though.
That looks like a great bunch of toys. Torrey used to chew everything to death, then grew out of it.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed Luke outgrows it, but Sheba never did, so we’ll see.
What a fun birthday these guys had – so many toys, so little time. Jack & Maggie aren’t big players, so I miss seeing a dog run around playing…thanks for sharing.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! The girls didn’t really play with toys much, other than fetching the ball, before Luke came along!
Looks like they had a bast. Our dogs are very hard on toys!
I’m glad it’s not just ours. They do have fun with them, even if they don’t last too long!
